They make the process of transferring from detention to patrol frustrating and long purposesly! It’s to discourage it from happening. I know of many deputies who were told that same old fairytale of working detention for a couple of years and then they could simply transfer to patrol, as long as they completed the crossover academy on their own. Guess what? They left for TPD or stayed in detention and are jaded! So basically our Recruitment and Screening is helping TPD and other agencies by creating a deception that comes back to bite us in the tookas eventually 🤨

I'm not saying it is as easy as it could be but you guys are making it sound impossible or even unlikely. There are 4 detention deputies in the law enforcement academy right now and it is only February. It would be irresponsible to send over everyone on the list - the jail has to be staffed too. As more people are hired, the more will be allowed to transfer. 30 years is a long career. If it takes you 6 months to transfer, is that really a big deal? You malcontents really are your worst enemies.

I see Deputies at Tampa General Hospital on a weekly basis, are these LE or Detention Deputies? Are they supervising inmates/suspects, and is this voluntary over time or more of an assignment?

Most likely detention supervising inmates. Can be a regular assignment or an OT assignment.

Almost all of these are LE deputies. This is another insane policy we have. Anytime an arrestee "needs" to go to the hospital, we have the arresting LE deputy take them to TGH. Most arrestees know that they can complain of ANYTHING, and we will cower in fear and immediately send them to the TGH, on tax payers' dime.

That's right, we pay for them to go to the hospital when they say they have a headache, a paper cut, their feelings hurt, etc., etc. We will not send a detention deputy to stand by while the arrestees get treated, unless they are admitted. And since so many arrestees "need" to go to the hospital for bullspit, several things usually happen. When the hospital finds out that their complaint's are bullspit, they will not admit them. This means the LE will be off the road (leaving our half full squads even shorter) for several hours. OR, we will then "unarrest them," or ROR them, because we're suckers.

The arrestees know that we are suckers, and they work the system to avoid going to jail. And then you have the few really smart arrestees. Those that are in actual need of medical services. The smart ones who actually need medical services don't go to the hospital on their own. Because then they will have to pay their own medical bills. Instead, the wait to get their medical treatment until they get arrested, THEN they complain of whatever their true medical need is. Then we, as suckers, pay for their treatment because it occurred "while in custody." So the ones that need expensive medical procedures they don't want to pay out of their own pocket, will wait to get treated for it until they get arrested for a felony warrant, or something similar.

I once had one lady call us and say she wanted to turn herself in for her warrant. I go and pick her up for her Failure To Appear on felony shoplifting warrant (what she stole was valued at $329). Then guess what... She's 37 weeks (9 months and 1 week) pregnant. Then on the way to jail ("felony warrant and FTA, so you gotta take her") she claims to have stomach pains. EMS is called out and and transports her to TGH. While at TGH she goes into labor, and BINGO. Guess who how much she paid for the delivery of her baby. $0.00. Guess what percentage of her bills we paid for the delivery of her baby. 100%.

Here's another idiotic process we have. On the rear occasion an arrestee gets taken to the hospital and admitted, the LE deputy has to jump through 10,000 hoops to get a detention deputy to the hospital. Often times this takes so long that the LE deputy is relieved by a LE deputy from the next shift, and by the time the detention deputy jumps through all the hoops he/she has too, and finally arrives at TGH, the arrestee has already been treated, (yes after being admitted) and is being released. And, if the arrestee did something to cause his own injuries during the process of arrest, like jump off the second story wile running away from the arresting deputy, fighting the arresting deputy, etc. WE PAY ALL HIS MEDICAL BILLS!

    YEP!

This would make a great anonymous op ed! The citizens of Hillsborough don’t truly know what goes on in these matters! It gets put out by our media relations as serving the community! If people really understood how their hard earned tax dollars were being spent on these people they would flip! Well written deputy👏🏻
