If there is a logical reason to do psychological testing before being hired, then there would naturally be a logical reason for testing periodically after LEO's are subjected to these "stressors" that many officers admit causes a PTSD type reaction. So the next question would be WHY would any deputy be against follow up tests when they are perfectly fine with the initial test they took? Another aspect in this same thread is alcohol and drug use. Random drug and alcohol testing would also be appropriate. Deputies found to be experiencing issues in these areas could be removed from interactive duty with the public in an enforcement capacity. Perhaps better suited to investigation or administration work.

You cant even work at 7/11 without being drug tested periodically. The reason we dont, we know far to many people would be dirty.

Not to mention non-prescription steroid use. But the administration doesn't want to go there.

Higher ups worth their weight are trained to see the warning signs of substance or alcohol dependence and abuse. If they care they ask and direct.... But a Hallmark of these diseases is minimizing, hiding and lying to protect the disease. The disease of addiction isn't treated by this administration like other diseases, but they have helped save people's lives too... We have some of the best benefits out there and there's great help available. It doesn't need to cost you everything to do something about it. But if you don't, it might.

Most of you are just absolutely lost on this. It’s okay to act like a tough guy or girl and just hope the problems go away. Fact is if you don’t cope with the shit you’ve seen and have to deal with it will affect you once you are done and retired and hopefully you have someone to help you. If any of you think that Bob or Sean or the Greek Commander will be there for you then you are sorely mistaken. I reached out after retirement and was shunned. If that makes me weak then so be it

If you allow the job to bother you that much, you need to reevaluate your life and move onto something else. This job is what you make it. If you allow yourself to become bitter and disgruntled, it’s over. The whoa is me mentality doesn’t work here. It’s dog eat dog and that’s the reality. Some people aren’t cut out for the line of work and that’s perfectly okay. You aren’t being held hostage and are free to go at any point. You control your own happiness, don’t blame your life on someone else. All the best!

The problem is with the job stress itself and with the command staff who could care less about the deputies who are affected by it, and often suffer negative consequences. In addition to alcoholism (DUI), drug abuse, they can snap at work and turn violent on other staff and inmates (mental health problems). Such individuals clearly need treatment rather than termination because they turned violent, alcoholic, or drug addicted due to job stress. They did not have these conditions prior to being hired.

Also, command staff should look at the workplace conditions which causes such stress related problems and find ways to eliminate or mitigate them. However no such efforts have even been undertaken. Jail staff continues to be needlessly overexposed to job stress due to the blatant ignorance of the command staff and sheriff.

Even if you did suffer it would be a cold day in hell if you could ever convince a workmen’s comp doctor and this department to comp you out with a disability.

    https://bichlerlaw.com/what-is-the-h...esponders.html

This is why you need a good law firm on your side to enforce the law on the books and get you the settlement you deserve.
