    It has to play out

Wow. This has been a whirlwind. I'm exhausted.

    1. Dsteph, couple things:

    A. You made an error in judgement ( desecration) - see bottom on that cleanup

    B. You mismanaged your expectations to have someone cover your ass for your error in judgement (that's old school - way too much liability on pulldowns now, so you hit a milestone in life's lessons--and there will be more)

    2. Max & the exposure crew:

    A. You found a brother who made an error in judgement - how you decided to handle that tells a lot
Should you have taken this privately to the command staff? Certainly a different outcome may have occurred --Colina could have taken a different route on cleanup and given the misguided a chance to redeem himself. You denied him that . You took that opportunity away from your brother to redeem and better himself and instead used it against him---you need to own that and what has this proper lack of reporting done for the team? You exposed him, yes, but you could have done it privately and thought about helping someone grow by error and not used it to hurt. You have now invited Mrs. Karma to sit on your porch swing.

    3. Retirees:
Has anything changed? Kind of shaking your head at this point perhaps. Wasn't the FOP always reserved as a place for LEO brotherhood, that place where one could go to seek help and refuge in time of need. To talk with a retired/active LEO and get advice, to feel support, and quiet transition planning.
How did you guys think that having active LEO run the place was a good thing? Check your by-laws, members holding office needs to be recalibrated. Get rid of the conflict of interests, eliminate the inexperienced, and make use of the pot of gold that have transitioned to retirement and provide a path for outside services for those in/out active. Protect it.

A broad diverse board is very healthy, which by the way could include more seasoned women, but def minimize active leo to board as maybe 1 please. conflict of interest breeds corruption and you already know this....everyone knows this, so take the steps to close the gaps in the by-laws. Protect the organizations from corruption and focus on its true purpose.

Restoring the mission and vision of the intended FOP/PBA model has to remain in tact. An active LEO has to focus on his current role, there are not enough hours in the day to run two roles plus try to grab overtime to boot. An FOP leader is someone who can dedicate his/her full efforts to running the organization as intended. There is so much more the organization can be providing - speakers, re-training & education seminars, networking for those in private sector now, sick kids, community philanthropy partnerships, save a cop with mental health, funeral preps, mentorships, outings, family FOP picnics, on and on. Use of one active MPD Leo from community relations as the conduit to the FOP on board is sufficient. FOP should be a community partner with MPD not run by the MPD command wannabees. Was Javi using this as a platform to prove leadership so he could get fastracked to MPD command? Cmon guys....restrict the FOP nominations by-laws to avoid future conflicts . take it to a vote.

    4. MPD: Your members are part of the FOP - this is a good thing, but a restriction on leadership roles there need to be re-evaluated . Any time one of the officers wants to hold an office outside of their active leo role, don't you require that permission be severely reviewed for approval, and it should be yanked at your discretion as well with noted signature ahead of time for understanding. These folks are under your command, and that rope needs to be shortened and understood as yanked at your discretion. Power eat people alive if not in check , corruption and misuse of police power then finds a way using leadership in other organizations. Not until you nip those permissions in the bud and tightening outside leadership roles will you be able to reduce harmful conflicts of interest for MPD. you have enough to deal with in a new policing era without quasi external/internal conduits tying back to the MPD.

D'stephan - to resolve this with Mrs. Karma yourself, please first agree to meet with several different rabbis at their synagogues, (just like you'd do with your priest) tell them you made an error in judgement on something related to the faith, and offer to privately provide some security detail at no charge for them. Accept this as a way to make retribution for what happened and then ask for forgiveness. Yes, people have done more hateful things to the jews but they don't always get caught. Use your private sector business as a way to turn this into something good. Humble yourself a bit and grow from it. Mrs. Karma will deal with the others in the situation. Things happen for a reason, and you may not know that til a later time. Be proud of the time you did serve the citizens.

so, unfortunately, poorly run organizations, and mismanaged people don't take advice til after a crisis
being pro-active is a sign of a well run organization and successful persons

being pro-active requires inclusion and openness to debate and ideas
strategy and risk management are roles for specific purpose

your re-org team may need to be upgraded, not just replaced

This is so true, but I feel so dirty reading it because it takes me back in time to a place I don’t want to remember which is studying for the SGT test. ICS and NIMS

This is very well written. It makes a few assumptions but the point is taken
