Does the "escort hold" also include poking your finger violently into the inmate's face striking him several times, getting inches from his face or even making contact with his face with your face and screaming at him?

What is the policy on inmate's in wheelchairs? Wouldn't the "escort hold" on an inmate in a wheelchair simply be grabbing the two handles on the back of the chair? It really didn't require any "escort hold" because he was not "escorting" him anywhere.
Actually it was an escort hold and a guiding touch, nothing more at that point, in order for him to gain inmate compliance and be able to escort him out of the dayroom for being disruptive. The use of force happened after the inmate spit on Hull's face and it was perfectly justifiable. Bob loves to fire jail deputies but he'd react the same way if an inmate spit on his face. Yet another example of Bob not backing up his deputies but selling them out for his own political advantage.

You make a very interesting point. The only political advantage to firing Hull is if Bob feels that there will be more voters that don't want deputies beating people than do. It's kind of hard to gather voter support for a deputy beating a guy in a wheelchair. If Hull wasn't in his face and was walking him using the handles on the wheelchair, there would not have been a spitting. Bob knew the video would come out and Hull being left on staff was going to cost him votes. So basically stop beating people because we the people don't like it being done to anybody.

If you think a couple of slaps to the face are a beating you have never seen a good solid beating the way they used to apply at the jail in the good old days before Coats and Gualtieri took over. The inmates knew it and feared the jail deputies and did not dare act up. The jail administration backed us up too because we kept the inmates in line in those days.

    Truth be told.....

There are way to many people in charge who have 20/20 hindsight and the luxury of NEVER having to deal with the shit that the floor deputies have to day in and out for 12 hours. Where is this wonderful training we are supposed to possess to avoid losing our heads and then reacting with extreme rage. It's the stress and 12 hour shifts that is letting g this stuff happen. The lack of leadership is appalling. The supervisors are just happy that don't participate in the floor activities on the wing and sit in their offices waiting to pounce on the next horrific event that happens and fry the deputy. IT IS PARTLY THE FAULT OF A SUPERVISOR TO NOT WARN STAFF OF THIS TYPE OF STUFF. A veteran supervisor, daily read offs, staff appreciation towards one another, 8 hour shifts, and a respectful work environment would avoid this crap. Why didn't Hull call a supervisor because he was probably so fed up with said supervisor never backing him up or as they say, "There isn't anything we can do. We can't move them because of classification or blah blah blah." You end up having a match and gunpowder living together. The end result is an explosion of unprofessional behaviour and rage. This is just one of many times the lack of any kind of real discipline and policies led to yet another termination. You are meant to fail at this job. It can be avoided by some but that number dwindles more and more by the year. To make it 30 yrs. Is nearly all impossible. Why do you think people are trying harder for promotions than they are at actually doing the job? God's speed to Hull and I hope he finds the incredible life that lives outside the jail. For those of you who remain thank him for showing you what could happen to you in a split second. He probably saved a lot of jobs. However the lack of officer safety and general respect is going to make deputy assaults even more commonplace. Welcome to the new normal.

You can bet that other inmates have seen the outcome and they will do everything they can to provoke a response from a deputy to try to get them fired. No wonder ALL agencies are having trouble recruiting police officers. It is obvious that the criminals have all of the rights. The PCSO lost a little more credibility by firing this deputy.

Well said, you nailed it. Too bad nobody cares about the floor deputies. They take the most risks and stress for the lowest pay.

    Take The Hit

This should be an important lesson to all deputies in case a suspect/inmate spits on you or hits you. Even if the suspect/inmate hits you first and you retaliate or react, Bob will not back you up. He will fire you and plaster your name and video all over the local and national media. Better off to take the hit, do nothing to the inmate/suspect and notify your supervisor. At least then you keep your job and Bob can review the video to decide if he wants to file charges against the suspect/inmate, not you. This is the cold reality of the job right now because Bob wants it that way. Someday we may get another sheriff who will back up his deputies but for now we are stuck with backstabbing Bob.

Wait a minute there Juan Carlos the maverick of FAKE NEWS what did not see of the good Deputy blasting the inmate in the face first. You conveniently left out the fact the good Deputy caused the disabled inmate to spit because he could not defend himself agains the good Deputy battery by poking him in the face. You make it sound like the Sheriff did not back a Deputy who was spit on by an inmate but you leave out that the Deputy caused it? Hmmmmmmmmm I wonder what the great fake new agenda is here?

In your career here of thirty years, you will probably have 5-7 different sheriffs. Good and bad. As the county is starting to have more democrat than republican voters, it’s only a matter of time that you get a very liberal sheriff. I consider Bob to be a moderate, but he only cares about himself and nothing else. He is the typical lawyer politician that will stab you in the back of you aren’t looking. Due to more democrats living in this county, the future doesn’t look bright for PCSO employees.

If an inmate hits me I'll go down and stay down. At least I'll keep my job.
