Attention Media - newspapers and TV

I hope the media wakes up and sees what is going on here. the new governor is allowing this parent (andy pollack and his idiot son) to make decisions they have no business making. as sad as the loss of their daughter is, it certainly does not qualify them to make a mockery of this agency. the little punky kid hunter, appraently has know "sheriff tony" for years and for some reason the new governor has allowed this family to call shots they have no business making. they now started companies and non-profits to make money off the deaths of their children, which im sorry, that is sick!! mourning is one thing, the way andy pollack talked about how "he got rid of israel and now will get rid of runcie" is sickening. what makes these parents experts in active shooter.

and who the heck is sheriff tony? a 12 year cop, 3 year sgt. something missing here people... can you imagine a 12 year cop who was a sgt applying to be a chief in any dept in our county? they would not even get an interview, but here he becomes sheriff over 5000 employees? sick!!! I'm no israel fan, but at least he had 25+ years, was an assit chief of a major agency and chief of another agency. no doubt many from our agency screwed up, and they should be fired. but come on, Sheriff Tony?

And if he did have 2 criminal pasts with writing bad checks and a warrant issued for him way back, why did coral springs hire him? His background check in coral springs has to be public record?

Funny how the names change but everything remains the same. When people criticized SI they were lamers or the "28" . Now any criticism of Tony is from Israel or Israelites.

Who else could it be, seriously, Sheriff Tony has been in office for a little over 3 days. Nobody can believe that is enough time to tell how he is going to be. Ok, so he only has 12 years experience as a LEO, we've had some in charge that didn't even have that. How about we give this guy a chance to see what he can do or not do. We haven't even had enough time to take all of the former Sheriff's pictures down yet.

I would of rather seen a more responsible vetting period, with some real qualified professionals. Tony would of been great heading up training, definitely not qualified to be Sheriff. The last guy that for Sheriff against Israel was mocked by the media as not having the background to manage an agency of this size. With that being said, I am hoping Tony does a good job and can make this agency feel proud again.

There were no claims of being experts on active shooter. The claims were about accountability. Your personal comfort and job satisfaction with regard to whomever leads the agency is secondary to those who pay taxes and expect their kids not to be shot at school. Therein lies the problem. You don't come first. Like it or not, you were represented by an entire district that failed. The leadership of that agency was chosen and maintained by the top. The buck stops with the Sheriff and his cronies. Breaking up a Shady Rest and dumping ground for misfits and a privileged few is not rocket science and doesn't require years of experience. This task requires CHARACTER, attention to detail and organization. Time will tell if Sheriff Tony will do the job. If not, he'll be voted out by the residents of Broward and by those who recommended him.

That’s where your wrong kiddo, parkland didn’t become the retired on duty district overnight by one sheriff but is a natural consequence of seniority and traditional policing models. What young hard charger wants to work a district with no crime stats and no ability to learn? If you want to go somewhere in your career you go to Pompano or a district where you can show you can shine.

Additionally, parkland is one of the most political districts where every step was watched already before the shooting, now there’s perception a pervasive atmosphere where the community and command is out for blood. Most deputies won’t even work overtime there even though it’s basically free money.

Now ask yourself, has ANY of this changed? What’s the incentive for anything but either a lazy deputy or a deputy with no aspirations to ever go to parkland? This has been an issue long in the making, and is an issue for every department, the lazy or retired on duty cop is usually found in the areas with little to no crime, and BSO is no different.

Not only is this found in parkland, but this is also true of the SRO program. Generally speaking the only people in that program are either lazy and trying to get off the road but can’t go anywhere else, or are, unfortunately, more akin to a social worker who wants to help children but is severely lacking when it comes to backbone, the warrior mentality, and the ability to take quick, violent, decisive action when necessary, such as in an active shooter.

Once again what’s the incentive for a new or ambitious ass kicking deputy to take a spot in the SRO Program? You can’t make the arrests or reports that will get you into special units that being on the road in a busy district will, and it’s a dead end job, there’s no downtown version of the program. You’re a social worker with a badge basically who, due to the recent political atmosphere, is second guessed every minute, ESPECIALLY if you god forbid have to go hands on with a kid.

Overall, these are institutional problems that are pervasive throughout the profsssion and it takes a professional to fix them. When a major company with thousands of employees needs a change of direction due to institutional failures, they pay a new CEO millions of dollars to come in because that’s what someone who knows what they’re doing costs. They dont hire the manager from the company next door. Ask Ben and Jerry’s about that, they tried capping their CEO to six figures and the company went south, and they had to bring in a real boss quickly right after.

That seems to be already where we are headed, we got a new guy and he’s already bringing in people to tell him how to do his job.

You are a retread. This is Florida. The SUNSHINE State. There are laws named after it. Most of the stuff the media gets is free and fair game so your pathetic plea is laughable. ATTENTION MEDIA - NEWSPAPERS AND TV have you been living under a rock? This stuff has been all over the nationwide news and our old friend Bob Norman has reported you're little issue. You're a day late and a dollar short. Nice to see you're a Runcie fan though. You must have a five strikes a year then you're out kid nearing number six. You had a good run. Too bad. Enjoy prison b!tch.

Thank you for this very informative post. It answers many of the questions that we have had about the development of the culture of the district. And, it makes sense. Do you think that restructuring things where deputies would be on a rotation is something that would work? It seems that Sheriffs have come and gone and this has never been addressed. Maybe there did not seem to be a reason to change what didn't seem to be broken, prior to Feb.14. The comments that you have made about Parkland being the most political are of interest too. Posters have alluded to this in the past. Specifically, what's this all about? Are the captains walking on eggshells with regard to local politicians? City manager? Comissioners? Mayor? Tell us who the problems are and we'll be on it. There are over 3000 people involved in FixIt. We'll be here until it's fixed.
