Is the Chief still working for a Sheriff?

After years of trying to become our own agency and move forward in to the future it appears we have yet hit another snag. Most of us believe that the Chief is embedded himself too deeply with Tom Knight having to ask Knight's permission for just about everything. I understand that we wanted to work as a team with the SSO and that is of course great. However would you sacrifice your own men and women just to hook your girlfriend up with a job at the SSO? It appears though that things have gotten a little out of hand on how much is being asked from the Sheriff before we do just about anything anymore. It is almost like a battered wife syndrome. Better not piss off Tom. It sucks. The question is are we ever going to have a true leader at this place or just another guy in it for himself? Is he so used to working for a Sheriff that he just can't help himself? Sorry Chief you are a really nice guy and this is not meant to slam you. This is merely a question about the independence and true identity of our agency and your ability to stay on our team. Opinions please?

Obviously it's not the same as yours. We always had a great relationship with SSO until KV destroyed it. Now the new Chief has the opportunity and IS mending the fence that was broken down by his predecessor. The Sheriff works for the people of the county as does the Chief for the citizens of North Port. We have our independence, but also have resources available to us from SSO. Only a fool would ruin that relationship (whoops, he did)! It's time to move forward again to unite both agencies and that is what is occurring.
