Plenty of research for those who are willing to take the time and make the effort. One of the most extensive was the 2011 Police Foundation report titled "The Shift Length Experiment". It showed that a 12 hour shift has numerous side effects but the most prevalent are sleepiness and fatigue. You can research others but they all point to quality of work declining, and some show an increase in crashes and use-of-force reporting. Isn't the department looking at 8 hour shifts but perhaps a combination of a few 10 hour ones. 12 hour shifts are particularly hard on single parents or households where both parents work.

If you don't like it here then leave. By the which departments are going to 12 hour shifts; be specific. Davie and few others got rid of theirs; tell us why?
