That's caca! The 12-hour shifts is the only thing keeping many officers here. The last poster has it wrong: many departments are looking to go to 12s because it increases manpower on the road and gives officers more days off to spend with the family and unwind. Research has shown that officers are less likely to call in sick on weekends and are much happier coming to work. Plus, off-duty and ot spots are filled much quicker because officers have more days off to work them! Very big mistake on the part of brass if they decide to do this.

We are a joke. We have incompetent Captains running this agency, and now we are going to 8 hour shifts. Those who suck the rear end get promoted and are part of the Chief’s click.

Ask the genius that came up with the idea of switching to 8 hrs. The same guy that can’t speak in public.

8 hour shift imposed, no prior official warning

All of a sudden, new Bids start and boom 8 hours shift imposed by the wise staff. Family lives just changed, especially for those with court imposed child custody visitation rights. Back to court and more $$$ for attorneys to change the hours and dates! No more every other weekend FSS off with the family. Now watch, it will cost the city more in OT, COURT, etc with the 8 hours. At least a MONKEY SURVEY could have been done! But no, a Monkey wrench was thrown into something that was not broken! DORAL PD Officers will now suffer for the longest. The place is divided by evil fear. No one stands up for no one.
