    VCSO Evidence

The VCSO evidence facility sure does seem to have a lot of IA's and investigations concerning its staff. Kind of poetic justice that Rachel caught an IA after she snitched out Jody Thomas. Being a snitch sure did not help her cause (even though Chitwood despised Jody Thomas).

Here is a copy of the IA. At least it did not involve any sworn.

That doesn't matter. They're employees, and employees can do just as much damage to the image. Whether they wear a badge or not isn't even an issue... They're VCSO employees that someone at the Sheriff's office hired. I can understand the option of resigning for deputies, that actually makes sense to me. The civilian roles at VCSO should not be afforded this same lifeline. They should have the findings in a permanent personnel file, to alert future employers of the event. And if they break any laws at work, DAVID violations or similar, they should be arrested and no time off with pay... Dont even start the arguement that they use their own accrual of vacation time. That's the whole point. THEY SHOULDN'T GET ANYTHING AT ALL BUT WALKING PAPERS! After a thorough investigation with the correct questions being asked. I as a citizen have seen the obvious lack of pertinent questions in IA's of past. Not good, you are supposed to lead by example. Simple as this, she resigned almost exactly 2 months ago. 2 months ago and now it is big news? That's a big part of the problem with the County now. Look at David Lee Davis and the other substitute from DMS. It's time to quit sleeping under the rug and begin to accept responsibility for mistakes! The moral here: Volusia County can no longer sit silent and act as if all is well, because it's not! The people see firsthand. VCSO, VCSB and VCC all have the worst reputation in recent memory. Think about it, it really is ______ up! And at the end of the day, one person caused this. Moral and trust is at an all time low.

In the military a leader takes accountability for the actions and performance of his unit. It seems like the VCSO is the opposite in who takes accountability and responsibility for the actions of the unit. Here it is the employees....not Chitwood.

You are spot on with that assessment. The higher you go in rank, the less responsibility you have around here. You just have more people below you to blame for your screw ups. There is absolutely no ownership from leadership here. In Chitwood’s defense, this problem predated him. However, he has done nothing to improve on this. One could argue that he has actually exacerbated the problem.

Here are my thoughts on this subject. Ben Johnson was the type of boss that would punish you for mistakes. But as long as you did not lie to him, were sincere in your explanation as to what happened and showed contrition he (Johnson) would never take it personally or as an affront to him. You would get punished and moved forward. Chitwood is the type of boss who takes mistakes personally and as an affront to him. As has been documented on this and other sites he is really lacking in basic leadership.

And as the one earlier poster indicated....he is exacerbating this problem to a degree that makes it difficult to be an LEO.

Actually, you could lie to Ben and still get away with it. In fact the more you lied, the more you got promoted.

I hope this does not evolve into the "Ben stinks, Chitwood is great; Alvin and Henry are idiots and news and facts about Chitwood are fake news" argument that has become kind of the rule here.

Please provide examples of folks that lied to Ben and got promoted. Details.

And just for conversation one of the recent IA's has Stickels lying in the IA and nothing happened to him.
