Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno has been named in a paternity suit filed by a 43-year-old Fort Myers woman who claims she is due to give birth to his child next year.

A spokeswoman for the Lee County Sheriff's Office said Marceno "respectfully declines to comment on the matter."

Deanna Lynn Williams of Fort Myers filed the suit in Lee Circuit Court on Monday, claiming that she and Marceno became sexually involved and as a result, she conceived the child.

Williams is due to give birth in 2019, the suit said.

There is nothing in the court file indicating that Marceno has been served with the suit papers. Judge Elisabeth Adams was assigned to hear the case.

Williams seeks child support and sole custody of the baby, and asks that the court deny any parenting plan that would include Marceno sharing time with the child.

She claims that Marceno "advised her" to have an abortion and offered to finance it.

"Shared parental responsibility would be detrimental to the child because the father does not wish for the child to be born, not to accept the child into his life," the suit says.

The suit also demands medical and dental insurance, life insurance coverage and coverage of prenatal and childbirth expenses.

Williams is represented in the suit by Fort Myers attorneys Ryan Hamilton and Patricia Hamilton. The attorneys Hamilton did not respond to a request for comment.

Marceno was appointed sheriff by Gov. Rick Scott effective Oct. 1, after the retirement of Mike Scott from the post.

He had served as undersheriff as Scott's second-in-command. His responsibilities included supervising department operations.

It's not the first lawsuit filed by Williams. According to court records, she filed suit against former Major League Baseball player Johan Santana in 2010, claiming sexual battery, assault and false imprisonment.

Santana filed a counterclaim alleging defamation and malicious prosecution, based on a prior finding that there was no probable cause to allow a criminal case.

That suit was dismissed under an agreement between Williams and Santana. Williams was later sued by her attorneys who claimed she didn't pay their bills. That suit is still pending.

Williams filed a paternity suit in 2016 that was dismissed by the judge after a court summons was returned because it could not be served on the putative father. Williams' lawyer withdrew from that case earlier this month.
