    Florida Amendment 10 clarified: SHERIFF

    • If you vote "no" on Amendment 10, it remains LEGAL for county and city residents to vote (in a countywide referendum) to have their county commissioners "appoint" the county sheriff.
      .
    • If you vote "yes" on Amendment 10, it will become ILLEGAL for county and city residents to vote (in a countywide referendum) to have their county commissioners "appoint" the county sheriff. Miami-Dade will be legally forced to revert back to an elected office of sheriff.

You people are so ignorant. I’m not a cop but a political advisor. Get used to it, you will answer to the people. So when we say we want the cop fired, your sheriff is going to say ok. If not, our voter base will vote them out. We can’t wait to finally control the police. Also with voter restoration in play, we run this now. It’s too late. You all did it to yourself. 10 will pass.

JP is accountable to the Mayor and the Mayor is accountable to the people. Look what happened to Alvarez. I don't think throwing a Sheriff in the mix will make anything better.

Voters recalled Alvarez because he obstinately went against taxpayers' will, championing the Marlins' deal. Since the era of the appointed director came into effect, only E. Wilson Purdy was "canned" by the then county manager - circa March 1979. Why? Still vulnerable from the exposed and "blown" "Public Corruption Market Connection case," Purdy, refused to promote then Lieutenant Willie Morrison to captain. Morrison, after completing the testing process, placed 4th, which in any era was a very promotable position. Particularly when County Rule has the Rule of Four; meaning the director can promote a person from the first four candidates on the list. Since, no director has been dismissed. Accountability? Only when it serves the powers that be perpetuation in elected office.

The elected Sheriff will be accountable to Dade County voters; not the strong mayor or the commission, Dade County voters. That is why 66 counties in Florida elect their sheriffs.
