The mpd nepotism is out of control!

Why is the nepotism here so out of control? They do it so obvious and frequently already that you tend to expected like its no big deal. What ever happen to rewarding and promoting someone for their work performance and merits?

In the mid 80's with the department needing to double it size. A masses hiring went underway. So many made it in that should of never been hired in the first place. It sort of became a family business, for many. Then the promotions, what a joke it became and still is today. The females (some) saw a way to get whatever they wanted by cheating on their other half and used it. Those I lost all respect for. With city hall, involvement in the day to day operations of the department, F&F will always win. Nepotism, is out of control here, as long as we promote from within, we will always have it. It's a losing battle to b!tch about, so just do your 10 and go home and forget this place.

....you state as long as we promote from within....
it doesn't really end there, because a culture (and reputation) is hard to change without a generation of policy to clean it out. Meaning, by keeping this culture of promote from within, new outside talent doesn't even want to pursue interest and excellent outside talent for even civilian staff positions are understanding that they may not be able to be effective bc nepotism within a department staff exists and they will be silenced. It works off the same framework that corruption does....(except corruption involves unlawful illegal activities, and this skirts the ethical side but may not be illegal). so, yes, you have identified the issue/problem, but it is really embedded, same with other agencies in govt and the reason we have such suspicion surrounding them.

No one has come up with the magic solution except for really well run agencies who are not afraid to present this out in the open; and we all know what happens to whistleblowers---so check policy at your place and then you have a leg to stand on. If not, policy needs to be starting point.

ps. Latin culture locations add to this, generally speaking, because family is tighter in these cultures, and most everyone wants their family member to have something, or succeed, and having an unbias view is much more difficult for tough love in these cultures. should we accept it?
