Not only that but you get to work an extra 10 years for any Sheriff's Office, State agency, and a few city agencies thanks the FRS system. 30 years in this job, no thank you! Find a city like Tampa PD with a 20 year retirement or even a 25 year retirement. You will thank me at the end of your career. Plus the no cola on the state retirement system blows. The agency sucks anyways.

All you need to know if considering working here can be found by simply reading the next post about having a Union at the Jail. The "patrol" deputy that is an arrogant moron is very typical of what a PCSO deputy will be like. Condescending, belligerent, rude, thinks they know everything, talks down to everyone, calls people names, belittles his PCSO coworkers and and in general, they are just very unpleasant idiots to have to work around. Ask yourself if that is who you want to work with for a couple of decades.

Well said. That kind of unprofessional behavior is typical of patrol and the upper management in both patrol and detentions & corrections. It's a very toxic work atmosphere with a lot of back-stabbing and no back-up. Tons of evil and vicious people who seemingly enjoy doing harm to others because they think it will get them promoted. This agency has gone downhill big time and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Meanwhile the management is just re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic while the band plays on.

You are correct. They do pay more into their retirement. They also make much much more than we do. It is not even close. Do we have patrol deputies making 90K a year BEFORE OT and off-duty? Hell No! Even though they pay more they also bring home more. Plus 75% of 100K a year is more than 75% of 75K a year. I used those numbers because the math is easy for everyone. Plus you get to work 10 less years!! You can get another job like a lot of those guys. Go be baliff for the extra 10 years on FRS and then get a 30% add on to what your TPD retirement is. It is not rocket science to see how much they come a head. Plus they let you buy up to five years into their retirement. SO now you only do 15 years!!

The extra 10 years you have to work at PCSO and lack of a FRS COLA is the deal breaker. The pay being higher at TPD makes that deal even sweeter, despite the higher contribution than the 3% to the FRS here.
