Florida Amendment 10 - vote YES to get a Sheriff election
November 6 is coming up. Do you really want to piss off Mayor Gimenez, crooked Kathy Rundle, dancing JP, and cause the Commissioners to shake in their shoes? Then vote YES on Florida Amendment 10, State and Local Government Structure Amendment.
A "yes" vote supports this amendment to: prohibit counties from abolishing certain local offices—sheriff, tax collector, property appraiser, supervisor of elections, and clerk of the circuit court—and requiring elections for these offices.
Miami-Dade County would no longer be able to prevent electing a Sheriff. The Florida Constitution would force Miami-Dade to elect a sheriff. A sheriff gets their own budget; no mayor or commissioner can tell them how to spend it. The sheriff would no longer have to bow down before any mayor or commissioner. Of course citizens could end up electing an idiot, but that idiot has to answer directly to the citizens when crime gets bad. As it is now, we have an idiot mayor who has destroyed MDPD for 9 years already, with his horrible choices and forced non-proactive enforcement agenda. And it trickled down from the Mayor with his pick of JP, and then all his terrible choices for promotions. And nobody can do anything about it. Unless Florida voters say YES on Amendment 10 this November 6th.
Give our police department a chance to improve and get back to proactive policing that is supported by the command staff. Miami needs to get back to kicking ass again, because criminals are running this town, and MDPD is crippled from years of Twittering, Facebooking, and sitting back in a respond only mode.

Each of you is a force multiplier, so if you want to change how Miami Dade's police force is led and managed, champion Amendment 10. Talk to family, relatives and friends and become a force for good. The alternative will be Estevan Bovo, Gimenez' hand picked heir apparent. Below is Amendment 10's link, open it, read it and share it with folks you know. Below the Amendment 10 link is a link to Florida Statute, Chapter 30, read it and learn. Particularly Section 30.49 Budgets

Before you vote for change, why not learn from our closest and best example of what life could be like if we chose to elect a sheriff? Go spend a little time at the BSO thread and read their issues of an elected sheriff. A peek over the county line fence will help you make a better decision. You might realize the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Voting no!!!!!!
I will not vote yes and neither will all my family and friends. We will have a politician as sheriff who’s job will depend on catering to the activists! Fact is money is still approved by commission and strong mayor. Theee are just some facts which cannot be disputed without lying. Period have a nice day.

No matter which way it goes the MDPD is a sinking ship! No raises, no contract, no moral, no balls! Do nothing. Collect your check and get off that sinking ship as SOON as you can!

elected sheriff
****This is why JP and his crew have been destroying the department. Body Cameras, use of force restrictions, no proactive units, toothless SRT and promotions that just make you shake your head.
JP has been running for the elected sheriff since he realized the idea was coming, so Vote yes and get JP and the failed policies of the past few years for a long long time. Or vote no and he has to leave when his drop is over and a new mayor can hopefully place a director that cares more about us and the citizens than he does about staying in office

It is with a heavy heart that I aqree with you. I doubt we will get a contract, let alone a good one, any time soon. We are at a crossroad regarding an elected sheriff and either direction does not seem favorable.
Status quo will give us more of the same. An elected sheriff will likely run on an ultra conservative fiscal platform. If elected that sheriff will not be open to increasing the police budget and instead, he/she will probably look to cut costs anywhere possible.
Be safe, get your money and gtfoh!

Some people choose to look at Broward and have a negative impression about a sheriff. One he will be voted out soon. Secondly, look at palm beach. That sheriff knows how to put pressure on the commission to get what he needs for his department. The are the best paid in the state and the are not any more an affluent area as Miami Dade as some think. Either way what we have is horrible and Gimenez has shown us that. We also need an elected supervisor of elections; again Gimenez has shown us that we need to separate that posfrom under the mayor.
The sheriff thing WILL pass. The entire state votes on it and all counties except Miami Dade has one.
The issues will be how many people will run and who will ultimately be our next sheriff.
