What makes so many people in this administration so evil, lazy, corrupt, incompetent and treacherous? Is it their genetics, which cause such people to gravitate to these positions or is the corrosive environment of backstabbing and ass-kissing which causes them to change and act as they do?

People gravitate to like minded individuals. So evil, lazy, corrupt, incompetent, treacherous backstabbing and ass-kissing people like to hang with kindred spirits.

There have been some people who were decent but changed for the worse once they got rank and with the "in crowd". At least they thought they were in the club until somebody's relatives elbowed them out. Then they became some of the most bitter and miserable people to work with. Lazy too. That's what happens when you get promoted through politics, you can go down hard.

Those people are the fun ones. Watching them talking great about this place like it was gold and doesn’t see or blind to the problems. THEN, they have their fall from grace. How quickly they can turn. They then come to you and agreeing with you about how poorly this place is ready run. But when they fall, they fall hard. Some are on the promotional videos telling potential recruits how great this agency is. When they were "in" they'd swear dog feces sandwiches were good for you if Bob said so. After they got kicked out they changed their tune. They prostituted themselves and their souls to Bob. Too funny.

So here is what creates the flavor of the command staff, the sheriff. The sheriff is the supreme commander. And that’s the case regardless of who the sheriff is. But this sheriff runs it all and makes all decisions. Most sheriffs understand that in a paramilitary organization there are levels of command, each with a certain amount of power and authority. That is not how it is here.

But here is the real problem, Bob is a very intelligent guy and a very emotional guy. If Bob were to stick with intelligence, we would be okay. But Bob’s emotions get in the way of progress. When Bob saw Fineran and Edge hitting that armed felon piece of shit he got mad. He ended up clearing them in the use of force, because he had to, but he gave them ridiculous suspensions for things done every day. That’s because Bob got mad. And once he is mad you are screwed.

Look at his view on pursuits. He doesn’t want to tell someone their family member was killed by a fleeing felon because the suspect had a suspended license or for a property crime. That’s emotional. A rational person would understand that anyone who flees in a car is a danger to everyone around them. A fleeing felon is a scared person in an extreme fight or flight mode. Bob even advertised his stupid policy and guess what? More people flee from us than ever before.

If we ever got a true leader as sheriff we could be a great agency. And the way it looks Bob has cronies in place to take up his mantle when he leaves. There is a power group in Pinellas County politics who will never allow certain positions to go rogue. That would be sheriff, SAO, and PD. To unseat these folks you need to be clean, experienced and have money behind you. Until then we have what we have.

We live in Bob’s world. A place where he is never wrong. Even when he reversed himself he is never wrong, like on PIT. He forgets he told all of his supervisors you can’t PIT a fleeing vehicle unless you can pursue it. The man can’t admit that’s what he said to a huge room of all of his supervisors. But that’s what he did right after he reversed himself. Bob’s flaw, he wants everyone to make the decision he would have made. If you didn’t you are wrong. If you hesitated you are wrong. If you act too quickly you are wrong. If you did nothing you are wrong. If you did too much you are wrong. If you didn’t know better you are wrong. Get the picture? I wonder why he has a command staff that never makes decisions.
