Oh please. He screwed this agency up from top to bottom. He never made an attempt to get raises for any of his employees and always said there’s nothing he can do about it. At least Chitwood is making efforts to fix the pay when Ben said it couldn’t be done. He was a weak leader and now we’re stuck with him for council. Ben was a yes-man the entire time he was sheriff. He bowed down to county council and gave into whatever they said. He would not buck the system and that’s what is needed.

The only efforts Chitwood has made to fix the pay is by chasing off enough people that the council had to give us a raise to stem the tide before the staffing shortage became critical. You have to pay people more to work for a moron boss.

Imagine how critical the shortage would be if the buffoon Chitwood was not allowed to hire GS4 to do security at the courthouse or if the School Guardian program was not in place (and security at elementary schools was being provided by deputies like the majority of other counties). We still have a problem here.

Let's not forget how he let his home go into foreclosure while he continued to rent it out. Then, he took a second mortgage to buy land out of state. Both the home and second mortgage were foreclosed on because he never made a payment. Yet he kept the money from the renters and kept his land out of state. That wreaks of fraud. Yes, he'd be a great candidate.
