    After he was released from jail, Maher went home and took three hostages for about 10 hours. The SWAT team surrounded his home and hostage negotiators pleaded with Maher, asking him to release the hostages, including a child. The negotiator said over a megaphone, “I know you’re a good father Tim, but she’s a 13-year-old girl and she doesn’t need to go through this.”

    Communication with Maher ceased when a gunshot…
