It all comes down to one issue and one issue only. There is zero leadership at the sheriff's office. Everyone does what they want to, when they want to, with no respect for the mission of providing any type of law enforcement function whatsoever. The troops are so beat down and morale is so low that there is an atmosphere of complacency.

Policies are changed daily; promotions are political; assignments are either political, nepotism or friends of command staff.
The deputies as well as other employees are disgusted with how the agency has been running, and therefore put out zero effort. There is a well founded fear of monday morning quarterbacking, should they make any type of real-time decisions, from either their captan's, major's, the sheriff or that idiot in charge of training.

Something has to change soon before another tragedy causes poor ineffective law enforcement responses.

Agree with your statement but unfortunately the agency is littered with these do nothing deputies. They were put at the airport and port because no one else wanted them and they just linger around like a bad case of herpes.
You have to cut away the rotten part of the apple, or in this case cake, first and then with proper leadership, the place can change.

Disgusted with how it’s been running is dead on balls.
