    epic F up

the big SIU raid yesterday, SRT team, SIU,SCSO and patrol and what did they get a couple needles and maybe a crack pipe, no crack, no heroin, got the ammo (not illegal) but no gun. So to save face and because the perps were taunting them and laughing, a resistance charge and obstructing. All that manpower, all that overtime and nothing. Classic jumping the gun NPPD style, could have waited until you actually had some drugs in there. SIU a waste of money

At least they're doing something as opposed to nothing. Shake them up NPPD. I live in the area and I was so thankful you guys finally hit that sh#$hole. Lots of cars and traffic in and out that house and so close to our school. Thank you NPPD.

sometimes doing something is worse than doing nothing. Read the sun today, comical, all that manpower and what nothing but a couple of dirty needles, no one is owning up to and then read the article about the murder charges being dropped. Creative PR policing, Intelligence led policing, yea right. What NPPD tried to do was sensationalize the stupid sign to compensate for the lack of actual physical evidence in this drug raid. So when you say at least they are doing something just think, these perps are going free, they will sue, get 100 grand a piece, ( city settles up to 100 grand to avoid legal fees, court cost etc) and they will be right back in business, with a lawsuit as a cloak of immunity,
Now Morales wants a tank for $150 grand from Canada, to be used for high water rescues, that's a joke. The city can get a Military MRAP for free, that's right free, but not good enough for Morales he needs shiny new toys, not battle tested real military vehs. But the commission will uselessly spend our tax dollars on another new toy, so the next time they pull a bogus raid, at least they will have a tank. Wake up NP, enough is enough, pick a Chief first, then let him decide what the NPPD needs or does not need. Morales will get his tank, because he has VC in his corner. Morales will not stop there, motorcycles, helicopter, patrol boat, simply because as he states, for public safety and we don't need the sheriffs equipment, we as taxpayers already pay for, as quoted we want to be self sustainable, loosely defined as we want our own toys !!!!!

What exactly do you want the NPPD to do? What happened to the NPPD during the raid happens to every police agency in america...just because they didn't get the drugs doesn't mean they aren't drug dealers. I applaud the NPPD for being proactive against thugs. And for the so called "shiny toys" you should want your police department to have the proper tools and equipment. Thats what professional police departments do. The NPPD should not have to beg and barrow from big brother sheriff in order to do their jobs. If thats what you want, you might as well dissolve the NPPD and contract all services with the sheriff.

We need to stop Captain Morales from spending tax dollars on stupid shit. Let's get the new chief and let that person make the big boy decisions. We don't need a tank.

Morales in attempting to justify the so called armored vehicle by sensationalizing officer safety. we wouldn't want an officer killed and now states it can be used as a high water rescue vehicle when the vehicle is upgraded to a snorkel vehicle. It could wade in 4 ft water. First and foremost most officers injured in the line of duty are not SRT officers, who are specifically trained in entry tactics, they are patrol, whom are not equipped with a tank. The snorkel accessory, more money spent on this toy, when in fact maybe it can drive in 4 ft water, but you cannot actually open the door, because if you do the interior would be flooded. so how do you plan on rescuing someone, all BS being spewed by Morales.
The facts are this, the boys do not need this toy, they are not equipped, trained or certified for HIGH risk entries, they are a SRT team, hold and contain until a certified SWAT team arrives, like the SCSO. Yes there is a big difference between SWAT and SRT. SWAT is certified for high risk entries and yes they have an armored vehicle. We already pay taxes to support this. In this era of shared services why spend the money on toys. Now if Morales really needs an armored vehicle for his warriors get the FREE MWRAP, many depts. have them, some have even painted them , but most kept them camo or desert tan for the intimidation factor. It gives the PD a psychological advantage, rolling up in a real military armored veh. By the way they can drive in 6-8 ft of water and even open there doors for rescues. Commissioners don't buy into the hype and lies being told to you. NPPD and its admin need to make peace with the sheriff. Come to an understanding on shared services, if needed direct the PD to pursue a MWRAP. Don't buy into this concocted officer safety BS. More officers get shot on patrol, so why not armor all the PD vehicles, oh not financially feasible. So we buy a tank, just where do they park it at a scene, in the driveway, on the lawn. This is not the era of self sustainability as Capt Morales would like you to believe, Shared Services would in this case save us 150 grand plus all the cost of maintenance and training.

Team Work with the county...That is today's word kids. Having a narcotics unit is almost impossible in a small town. First and foremost it can not be 5 guys working in a warehouse trying to do controlled buys with $50.00. Does the cost of the unit make up for what they do in arrest and forfeitures? You have to have a "real" drug problem to justify an undercover narcotics unit. How many drug arrest are made each month by NPPD overall? These are unnecessary risk factors for officer safety and thank God none of them have been hurt. Being assigned to the SSO was working fine. You had resources and people. If you do not have enough cash money on hand to walk a Z of coke (and never get it back) then you are not a real narc unit and your objective is flawed, end of story.

You could be better used in patrol and are less likely to to be injured over a couple of needles on hummer search warrant. HuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MM

    Tank

I have worked for an agency that used tax payer money to purchase a tank, using the same justification for so called high profile raids and officer rescue. I was a Swat member at the time, and we were involved in a multi agency task force. Of course due to tax base the Sheriff's department had more resources. Over 10 years after the tank arrived we never used it once. We were able to obtain an MWrap that was much more efficient for high profile type events, but again we only used it a couple of times. This day and age military style vehicles being used may cause an escalation of emotions from the community when used. Although I believe the MWrap was a valuable tool even if it is only used to save one life it is worth the cost, but our tank eventual was given back to the military with no reimbursement. Patrol officers are out there day in and day out, today's society we have cops being shot, ambushed even while just having lunch. We need to address the safety of the front line troop and utilize tax money to up grade, train and provide them every tool available to ensure they come home to their loveones. It sounds like the surrounding agencies there in Northport dont play well with others. Someone needsto rebuild that bridge and combine resources, because criminal don't pay attention to juridical lines.

    My opinion
