This is one of the reasons why the department is losing its elite status. We keep putting people in power and sending people to represent the department who have absolutely no business doing either function. If you think for second we are fooling anybody when they look from outside in, you are only fooling yourselves. To make matters worse these actions only invite a waterfall effect, turning deserving, performing employees into disgruntled under performers. A leadership that focuses on friendships and back door deals is destined to fail. A leadership that is focused on quality no matter the personal cost or relationships, though may not be the most popular, will become elite in the eyes of its members and community. A pinch of common sense goes a long way. When corruption becomes so rampant that those who partake in it forget to hide its existence, causes the house of cards to fall and ruins all credibility. I for one could care less how anyone gets to the position they are in, as so long as once there they perform with professionalism that their office requires. This simply hasn’t been the case for far too long.
