    MDPD vs. CGPD (Annexation Issues)

Coral Gables is proposing to annex two of the nicer neighborhoods of unincorporated Miami-Dade (Ponce Davis and High Pines).
Coral Gables has published the following information on its website to gain support for the annexation:

"Police Response: City emergency police response is 5:00 minutes on average; the County response averages 10:04 minutes. For non-emergency calls, City Police response averages 8:00 minutes; County response is 34:45 minutes on average."

Is this true? Are the response times really more than double for emergencies and four times longer for non-emergencies?
CGPD claims that the police will arrive much faster, but what does it mean when they actually get there in an emergency? Are they as good as MDPD? Coral Gables makes it sound like CGPD and MDPD are interchangeable (as a matter of quality of services).

If your neighborhood is nice, MDPD will not be able to provide daily patrol. MDPD is too busy catering to black communities and has pooled all their resources to these ghettos. It’s s fact. Go to your MDPD district and ask to see Commanders Reports. You will see how few officers are actually out there.

With regard to MDPD response times, those figures are on a good day.

    not the answer

If police presence and response time is the only issue for the community, annexation is not the answer. Continued pressure on the county to maintain the directed patrol in the area is sufficient. The reason I say this, is because the call volume for the area is low and the increase in taxes, rules and other nuisance's of being in a city may not out weigh what the residents want.

As soon as somebody say's "I wan't Coral Gables to take over so I can claim to live in Coral Gables", then you'll have your real reasons for the push to annex.

High Pines has directed patrol when there is enough staffing. And during days and afternoons there is supposed to be NRU there, unless they have some other super secret important detail which requires them elsewhere. Do the math.

And even when there is some ONE assigned there, they still need a 15 to handle the majority of calls, so that 15 is coming from somewhere else and the response time is the same as if nobody were assigned there. And the assigned unit is always being pulled out to assist with other calls holding.

    It’s all smoke and mirrors.

You give no credit to those people that live in those neighborhoods. Do you think they want to put up more taxes, more politics, and the devil of all home owners association in exchange for quicker police response? Remember, this is the city that doesn’t let you visibly park your $80,000 luxury pickup truck in your own driveway.
