The absolute best example we have of this was Sheriff Johnson and the Derek Cruice shooting. Extremely difficult and tragic circumstances, but Todd did nothing wrong. While Sheriff Johnson sympathized and grieved with the Cruice family, he also spoke up in a very public way in the face of extreme political heat and even faced an angry mob at the County Administration Center to stand by Todd. That was some stand-up leadership! Is there any doubt how Chitwood would have handled the same situation? Feel extremely said for our deputies that the boss doesn’t have their backs.

From an award winning site talking about John Szabo:
"Another deputy, in a union Facebook page that is private, ripped the sheriff in an expletive-filled posting for his inaction on several issues. One of Chitwood's snitches (yes, that kind of in-house turmoil has been festering since his swearing in) made a screenshot of the posting and brought it to the sheriff. Chitwood's response to it clearly shows how thin-skinned he is: He fired the deputy, who was among the most prolific in making arrests and solving crimes. This deputy, too, has a family, now has to rely on relatives to help meet his financial needs."
John Szabo is among the most prolific in making arrests and solving crimes. Come back John!!!! We desperately need you.

Great post. Chitwood knows nothing of good leadership. Johnson had his faults but actually cared about the community and the deputies. He would admit his mistakes and not use his deputies as pawns. The VCSO (and citizens of Volusia) are in such a sad state with Chitwood being the Sheriff.
