FHP is not needed - no vital service

The Florida Highway Patrol has become obsolete. It serves no vital service that can't be absorbed by a local PD or SO. It's time for you to face the music, bite the bullet and join the Floroda Marine Patrol in the history books. You guys are more of a burden than a help.

Anyone who disagrees, name one task or service provided by FHP that can't be done by the Police or Sheriff's Office. Let's face it, anything you guys respond to is because we didn't want to deal with it and we called you. Y'all should be called third responders. 1st responders are Police and Sheriffs deputies, 2nd responders are the fire department, and 3rd responders are FHP as needed lol.

    Wouldn't sheriff's deputies be non-responders?

Say that to all the Sheriff’s offices in Florida who are always requesting us as back up or always call for a 10-42 from us. Miami and Orlando doesn’t speak for the whole state asshat

Just as I thought, not one person can describe why FHP is needed.

1st responder sheriff deputies? The very same sheriff deputies who hid behind their patrol cars and let 17 kids die in the Parkland shooting? Also the same same ones who sleep in their cars while kids are bringing in weapons to school?

    Sure...

In 1969, a year of great change in the state, the FHP had the chance to join all state LEO agencies to become a State Police. The various agency heads did not want to give up their positions to a central director, but, more importantly, the Florida Sheriffs Association fought this move hand over fist, and the legislature caved.

The result, the Florida Department of Criminal Law Enforcement (now, FDLE) was formed. We had our chance.

Don’t kid yourself. FDLE is a state agency too, with a specific mission. And it has struggled in many ways.

The problems with almost all state agencies has to do with the strict controls by the legislature on getting and using money.
