Soft Districts
There should be a two year limit to people working in soft Districts. You lose your patrol skills sitting in Weston or Parkland for five years or more. Eventually, when something does happen these people are in disarray and unprepared. I'm speaking the truth here. They are not effectively able to protect the public they serve. No exceptions. After listening to the radio traffic it's obvious they needed a hard charging Sergeant to run that radio and direct an assault on the shooters position. Instead the guy was non existent and let a coward take over his radio. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting. 2 year maximum in vacation districts. Now that would be amazing leadership.

Not waiting for the Investigation
The only thing that will come out of this "investigation" is a corrective action plan and some low level disciplinary action.
It won't matter. The anti-police liberal residents will be what's left behind in Parkland. Those who support juvenile law enforcement (arrest) are willing to take a loss and start over again in Southwest Ranches. It's the most similar landscape to Parkland and it has been "free at last" from BSO and happily with Davie PD for a few years now.

The truth is that it was too late even when Peterson got their. Check the timeline. When he arrives vruz is already on 2 and there are at least 6 deceased on 1. Could he had daved additional lives? Sure. But tjere was damage already done. Everyone wants to believe that a protective bybble for these things not to happen can exist and it is not realistic.

It's not that simple
The tide is changing. The public is talking a lot less about Peterson and Cruz and more about the root of this problem. There's some truth to the fact that no LE response is faster than the fire of an AR-15, (at least the first rounds). The core of this tragedy is rooted in the agreement between Satz, Israel, Runcie and all others who benefited from not arresting juveniles to keep the juvenile stats down -to obtain increased funding.
The "coward" label is too simplistic. Yes, they should have engaged.
The BSO fostered, conditioned and reinforced a lack of action in dealing with juveniles, particularly with their SRD's. Those four from D17 were crapping in their pants waiting for someone else to make the first move. Taking no action was less frightening in those minutes than doing something that would result in disciplinary action. THAT mentality was created by ADMIN. If the video of the deputy asking for his lack back does not demonstrate a fear of leadership, nothing will.

It wasn't too late to save the six kids murdered in the third floor.
But you're wrong that we can't do a better job of protecting these kids. These schools should be protected like Fort Knox. Because the assetts inside these schools are more valuable than gold. They are the Future of this country. And we are not giving them enough protection. There should have been at least three SRD in a school that size. It was undermanned and underfunded in a community that has the money to pay for 10 SRD. PEOPLE NEED TO START GETTHEIR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT. Instead of 20 majors and Captain's and Colonel's who don't do a damn thing except come up with new ways to keep us from doing our jobs, (such as the new pursuit policy which will completely shut down catching car thieves), perhaps we could get 20 new SRD'S. I mean where would we be if we didn't have a Captain to tell us to stage a perimeter on an active shooter? She obviously never attended the damn training but felt compelled to get on the radio and give orders that were completely wrong. The brass in this agency are too many and a huge waste of money.

What's on Paper
It's looking like the administration changed the conversation, the tone, the culture, the expectations and everything about this agency to take it as far to the left as possible. What they intentionally didn't do was change what was in the WRITTEN policies. This is why the Sheriff has no reservation about throwing any LE under the bus. He can; he has;and he will.
