No Raise for FHP
According to Senate bill 2500, FHP is not getting a raise this year. However, they must submit a plan by August 2018 explaining why they need a pay raise. The clause in the bill stipulates that the plans can only use current allotted funds and must not go beyond that year (I.E. no step plans). Juvenile justice is getting a 10% pay raise and raise in starting salary. Good for them. Also, the house bill was rejected, and they conceded with the senate bill.

Stay safe.

How dense is FHP and Florida Legislature?
This is ridiculous.
All the money, time, and resources to train and certify each trooper is wasted when he/she quits over LOW PAY which has been plaguing the agency for decades. Each time a trooper quits, they have to search and recruit people to train, certify, and retain them. It ends up getting expensive because FHP thinks they can find cheaper replacements rather than raising the pay.
Has Florida Legislature ignored the countless articles published about FHP constantly having trooper shortages due to LOW PAY? They want a reason? These articles about FHP's battling high turnover speak for themselves:

Do they really expect to continue paying troopers slave wages, work them to death, and expect to retain them? And then they wonder why FHP has the highest turnover rate? This has got to stop.
"If you don't like working at FHP, you should leave!"
And look where we are now? Severe staffing shortage statewide and troopers are weary of being understaffed, underpaid and overworked.
If this proposed pay raise, expect a mass exodus of troopers leaving.

All that makes sense here is that the legislature and senate just hope we fail and they can just have an excuse to get rid of us, since all of their studies have shown we provide an invaluable service and should not be replaced. Just make it to where we can hire or keep anyone and therefore are unable to provide the service we were entrusted to provide, then hey can wipe their hands and give it to the sheriff.
It’s a shame, no one wants to fix the issue, just put a bandaid on it. The clauses in the bill about “proposing a plan for retention and recruitment for money” is just another bandaid to put it off on a new year, budget and governor. No one wants to be the bad guy but no ones want to stand up and fix this stuff.
Once they fix the pay, and retention, the. We could get quality supervisors, FTOs and trainers to put out a better product than we have been.
Too bad no recent media attention have been available to the state’s pay issue, it’s always at a bad time.

Nothing will change until the people of Florida vote correctly. Republican run this state.
Every school is getting an officer or deputy. The State of Florida will pay for them out of this budget. This will take those law enforcement personal from the road. Leaving job openings at your local sheriff and police department. Young troopers, go get paid and be with better department that don't relay on the State of Florida House of Representatives , Florida State Senate, and Florida's governors. This ship is sinking. Leave any job that is run by a bunch of republican legislators and a republican governor.

Stop having sex in your patrol car with a married woman and racing Lamborghinis and perhaps a raise will be earned.

It’s all about money.
One reason other agencies get what they want from the Legislature is because they spend A LOT of money asking for it - in state lobbying. And they don’t write them tickets.
For example:
2017, $165K for Palm Beach SO (that’s not their best year)
http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/cli...?id=D000043208
http://www.mypalmbeachpost.com/news/...sheriff-state/
FHP just doesn’t get it. The way it is now, Legislators have ZERO reason to do anything different than what is currently working (in their eyes). No incentive.
I’m mean, why would give money to the people that are definitely going to give you a $175 ticket if you get pulled over for something?

I read it, so it says money for recruitment and retention but no recurring money or a bigger budget than what an agency has now. What ?
Is it a bonus?
