A homicide detective was jailed Saturday, accused of having sex in his police car with a teenage girl whose trust he gained while on the job.

Pembroke Pines police investigated the case of Oldy Ochoa Jr., a veteran officer with the Miami Beach Police Department who surrendered himself at the Broward County jail on Saturday, said Capt. Carlos Bermudez in a release.

The 48-year-old detective is charged with two counts of sexual battery. He has been employed with the agency for approximately 20 years, an arrest report said.

It's "a very sad day for our department," Miami Beach Police Chief Dan Oates said in a statement Saturday.

According to Ochoa's arrest report, he offered a 17-year-old girl his Pembroke Pines home "to give her a safe place to reside." She had been temporarily living with another family.

The detective met the girl when she was an 11-year-old runaway and he was assigned to her missing-person case, police said.

After Ochoa petitioned the courts to let the teen stay with his family, she moved in with Ochoa's family in December. She ran away two months later.

According to a police report, the girl told a case worker that the inappropriate behavior began in January, when Ochoa would caress her hand and kiss her while they sat on the living-room couch.

Then on Feb. 13, Ochoa allegedly drove the girl in an unmarked police vehicle from his home to a school where she took GED classes.

After parking in a secluded alley behind the school, the pair had sex in the police vehicle while Ochoa wore his uniform, the report said. He had been scheduled to work an off-duty detail at the Miami Boat Show, police said.

A week later, Ochoa took the girl elsewhere in Miami-Dade, then to a wooded area near Northwest 186th Street and about a mile east of U.S. 27. About 4 p.m. the pair had sex in the police vehicle, the report said.

Ochoa then allowed the girl to drive the unmarked police car to his home, it said.

Ochoa's attorney, Robert C. Buschel, said that he could not comment about the allegations.

Detective Ochoa "served his community faithfully for over 20 years and looks forward to his day in court when all the facts will be presented to a jury," he said in an email.

In March, Pembroke Pines police executed several search warrants, including to collect DNA from Ochoa's police vehicle. Testing by the Broward Sheriff's Office crime lab showed a mixture of Ochoa's semen and the girl's DNA in the front passenger seat, the report said.

According to the report, Ochoa declined to comment during the investigation.

Ochoa has been on administrative leave since March.

"We have cooperated fully with the Pembroke Pines Police Department in this investigation," Chief Oates said.

When the criminal case wraps up, Miami Beach police will "take whatever action is appropriate regarding this officer's employment status," the chief said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement also is investigating.
