Wishful Thinking
Governor Scott tried to disband FHP in 2011. Sheriffs offices statewidewere against it because they're not equipped to handle the additional burden and responsibilities.
Unlikely FHP will be disbanded anytime soon unless there's a push by legislature and that the sheriffs are ready to take over to patrol the highways, work crashes and write tickets.

Im thinking you wrote this wrong. In FLORIDA. FHP is a training ground for Troopers to move and become Police Officers and Deputy Sheriffs. Although Correct on NOT EVERYONE IS CUT OUT TO BE A TROOPER. It takes about 15-24 months and ta Trooper realizes. This is not a State Police nor will it ever be and my pay, shift works really sucks.... Time to advance.....

You realize the only reason that FHP wasn't disbanded is because the majority of the panel we're Sheriff's and they wanted to keep you. Had the Sheriff's on the panel wanted to disbanded you that would have been the committees findings and with the stroke of the pen you would have been gone.

Who goes to barking dog calls? The only agency still in the 70s is the FHP. Those calls now go to the county animal services for YEARS now. Regulatory enforcement not Law Enforcement.

Actually the entire Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles should be abolished. The tax collectors handle driver andvehicle licenses and registration, and CVE can return to DOT. Either transfer the duties of FHP to sheriffs or put them under FDLE. The DHSMV right now is just an unnecessary bureaucracy and a waste of taxpayer dollars.
