It’s nice to see something positive on here. Shift differential, short form crash reports, some mid-shift cars again, and no more getting flooded with sig 12 calls are all things that seem to be moving us in the right direction. Those are all positive things I’ve seen with the new sheriff and colonel and I’m curious to see what else is to come.

Its a start. However many of these decisions are half measures. This agency is way too old for half measures and new starts. Technically, based on FSS, the short form crashes should not even be written in the first place. How about make the decision to stop writing them because we are too busy, short handed, and dont even have to. Thats a true decision. How is this not common sense? How about lets stop putting our nose where it does not belong and stop taking everything on. Getting rid of Sig 12’s is a half measure. How about unfounded 730’s should be wtitten as CAD call comments only. It would still meet all reporting requirements. Now that would be a real decision. Also, the mid shift should have never been taken away in the first place, so bringing it back was not some hot shot move. Its common sense. Two mid shift units per squad is a half measure. Years ago, when we switched from many small zones with one unit in each zone to less zones that were much larger with “multiple” units, the company that was hired to set this up recommended a minimum of 2 units during the day per zone, one to two mid shift units per zone, and two night shift units per zone. Based on that, lets do things all the way and create a real mid shift. These elemental law enforcement formulas should have been figured out long ago. Basic general rules of thumb should have been established and set in stone decades ago. This agency has been acting like a newly created inexperienced agency for years now. The new command is trying to fix it and I appreciate it, but things should be done all the way. Without fear. Plus, some of this stuff is common sense. Some of us have worked a large zone alone for so long, that when a commander makes the decision to give us a zone partner, they look like a genius. In the end, there should have been three or four units in that zone in the first place. Over the years, our standards for this agencies decision making have been lowered to such a point that any tiny half measure desicion to make something better looks like a million bucks. Only front line deputies and front line supervisors can see this because we live it. In reallity, we are way way behind the curve. Many people, including myself, say “Its a start”. Well, this agency should have cycled through these basic “start” phases many many decades ago. It doesnt take magic, it takes balls and EXPERIENCE to truly make things better. We need to fix the pillars of this agency. The brass needs to leave their confort zone.... BUREAUCRACY. They need to see these problems from our point of view. From way down here on the streets.

When I was hired there wasn’t any FTO pay, not for deputies, not for corporals, not sir sergeants. When I was hired, there wasn’t any master deputy, detective, Corporal, is sergeant pay. When I was hired, there wasn’t a shift differential. We never got paid out leave. There have been a lot of positive changes through time. Count your blessings, be patient.

It also wasnt this busy back then and you were rewarded by working in those capacities with career advancement. Not now. Being an FTO get you nowhere anymore.

Its not always about money. Yes if you work mids then good for you. Now what about getting us some help manpower rise n cut the bs calls we go too. Still doesnt change the tyrant ways this office is run by the chief. Until he is replaced its the same old same no matter how much money u throw at the new guys. Cuz lets be honest they are the ones who will benefit the most since they have no seniority for days.
