    Gun Control

If a defendant assaults a victim with a knife, then is the knife an assault weapon?

    Should assault weapons be outlawed?

The exact same question could be about hunting rifles:

If a hunting rifle is used to assault someone, then is it an assault rifle? Yes.

Should assault rifles be banned? No.

What is a gun nut? Gun nuts go nuts whenever 2nd Amendment protections are discussed. Gun nuts become irrational.

Gun nuts want to statutorily disarm law abiding citizens, in order to reduce gun-related crimes by criminals. Statutorily disarming law-abiding citizens is not the answer to criminals illegally possessing and using guns. That’s nuts. It is already against the law for criminals to possess or use guns, but they are doing it anyway. Disarming law-abiding citizens is not the answer to that problem.

Here is the answer that gun nuts don’t want to hear:
    • Enhance statutory penalties for those who use guns in the commission of a crime.
    • If existing laws are strictly enforced, to the maximum, against those who use guns in the commission of a crime, then gun crimes will be drastically reduced.

By the way, Chicago just had its 600th homicide this week:
