Can anyone please explain why we had to work 50 hours straight and not have a shift change? That was great money but absolutely stupid and dangerous! Why not change the shift and bring in new people right before the storm hits? I heard we always did that before? Is our leadership that incompetent?

To answer your question: yes your leadership (so called) is that incompetent. That's what happens when you have a chief who was fast tracked through the ranks (except major) and therefore never received the requisite experience needed for success. He was mainly kept in office's counting police pencils, etc where he could do the least amount of harm. Yes - "incompetent" is the correct descriptive word!!

How about both sides stop whining , but they are correct from each side .
Our command staff is new and does not have any veterans to follow . The fast track remark is also correct . Holding a position amd being inexperienced will alwAys place employees in danger and exhausted . Our " leaders" are not concerned with " us " . Example the pizza they all enjoyed while we were given jail sandwiches and water from a cooler made for six people.
From the mayor on down it is more of a position of statue and not leadership.
I love all you guys and gals and will always be there to 94 you . But this is ridiculous and we need and must have eachothers backs in these dark days as a city .

The City Commission, Mayor Mess, Grandma City Manager, and her white fitch boy Michael Moore, have decided to prepare in advance for the next hurricane. They said "We need to find the money to build another amphitheater; as everyone knows it would be better to waste an additional 50 million - over the 105 million already wasted in 2.5 years." We are truly blessed to be led by such such visionary leaders. In other cities they would just waste money on resurfacing roads, water and sewer systems, public safety, replacing vehicles and employee raises and benefits.
