Knight & guns inside crowded Sarasota school shelters

Today during a televised SNN interview about Hurricane Irma, which is allegedly barreling towards us right now, Mr. Knight announced on TV that citizens can bring their guns inside crowded Sarasota school shelters. But at a Manatee shelter, a big sign says guns are not allowed inside their shelters. Guns were a non-issue, until Mr. Knight made his grandiose public announcement about bringing guns into crowded school shelters.

A non-issue should not be turned into a political issue. No other elected or appointed official throughout Florida has publicly politicized guns on TV during Hurricane Irma. Knight is a political magnet of the worst kind. He should focus on looming public safety issues, instead of grandstanding, based on his upcoming gun battle with the courts (regarding his insistence that guns can be brought into courthouses). It’s the wrong issue at the wrong time at the wrong place. Timing and political common sense are everything.

Guns are good, but Knight has turned them into an idiotic legal and political scandal of the worst kind. Mr. Knight, please just focus on Hurricane Irma and not on your political agendas. Safety first!

I did not know that public access to school buildings meant that CCW permit holders can also bring their guns inside. Does that include the school's stadium activities, like at football games where the public has legal access? Knight similarly said that CCW permit holders can legally bring their guns inside certain court buildings.

Is Knight seeking legal advice before he makes these legal decisions for CCW permit holders?

Knight announced it on TV and it's in the SNN archives. He explained that if people have "public access" to school buildings, then CCW guns can be brought inside because all relevant laws apply. However, is he referring to only during an emergency or 365/7? Historically, CCW permit holders have not been allowed to bring their guns onto school property nor into school buildings. But maybe Knight knows something that we don't know? He should consult Chief Judge Charles Williams for more information. LOL

If someone is ever arrested for CCW (assuming they have a CCW permit) at a school event that has public access, then the defendant has a solid legal defense, based on what TK said on TV yesterday. Guns are allowed in all Sarasota County school buildings that the public has access to. That includes gyms, PTA meetings, auditoriums and football games.

Knight is not even out of the woods yet on his last gun case:
    https://www.scribd.com/document/355181357/TK-Rotisserie

It would be wise of Knight to wait until his first gun case (above link) is resolved before he tries to make new case law on allowing guns into school buildings, based primarily on public access laws.

Knight does not have the legal authority to tell CCW permit holders that it is legal for them to carry their guns into k-12 school buildings.

Thanks for posting the exact state statute that Knight is encouraging CCW permit holders to violate. Here is the statute online:

    http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/...s/0790.06.html

    This is an illegal knightmare.
