That's what you get when the promotional process is done the way it is. I've seen a lot of people on the sergeant's list that would make great supervisors get passed over because of ranking. Not all are great on exams or assessments, does not make the person lowest on the list the better candidate all the time. Granted, hats off to those that are in the top 20 or so; however, where does passion, work ethic and professionalism come in to play?

Unfortunately if you are white and you have a penis in your pants, passion and ability has nothing to do with a promotion. You have to claim to be affiliated with one of the 300 black churchs in Pompano or Lauderdale. Then shave your head and pretend to be very righteous while publicly supporting the previous sheriff. Then tell everyone you volunteer, mentoring youth. But in reality you only mentor black kids and then, only when you can receive attention for it. Then tell the new sheriff how God like and righteous you are, and make continuous references to jesus, praying out loud at every meal, especially when being watched. It helps if during your career you were instrumental in someone escaping from custody, injuring or killing someone. The more controversial the better. You get bonus points for launching a brick through someone's window ending up 15'd for a felony. None of this will get you promoted to sergeant. But if you follow it closely, you will skip sergeant and be promoted to jailer or DLE colonel in BSO. If you are more worthless than words can describe and have no interest in your job or BSO, follow the stench to gary and his trumpet.
Good luck on your promotion.
