The fact that Welch wasn't immediately fired or demoted for this is bad. The fact that Thomas defended him is absolutely sickening.

Troop F Qouta
We have one in Troop F Fort Myers. If you don't write 2 an hour you will be called in and talked to by Sanchez or Bowers . They even threaten to not let you work it anymore.

More people need to come out about this, number 2 was the worse about it. Now he acts like he never pushed this two "tickets" an hour and covered it up with the word CONTACTS.....we've had a quota for years

Goals v. Quotas: Crafty genius or not so bright major? Which is it?
If FHP Major Mark Welch writes:
- Your goal is to write 2 tickets per hour.
Instead of:
- Your quota is to write 2 tickets per hour.
Exactly what is the difference between a supervisory imposed goal and a supervisory imposed quota? Is Welch a genius for fooling lawyers by imposing a ticket writing "goal" instead of a ticket writing "quota"? Or are attorneys going to flip Welch like a wet egg?
If Welch had not not written it down in a memo, then nobody would believe that he imposed it.

calle spring
How did an uneducated redneck like him ever make major and keep from getting run off? Bust him to trooper and send him to Glades County and he can write all the tickets he wants!

I really think Spaulding either A. Has to address this or B. Resign
You have a Troop Commander who, in writing, established a quota. He even points out that the number of contacts is fine, it's the number of tickets that are unacceptable. Thus, it's a quota and it's unlawful. Then, instead of handling the situation, the number 2 in the agency defends the situation.
The Captain of the ship needs to step up and 1. Dismiss Welch immediately over this (he's a Major and not an included employee) and 2. Issue a statement refuting the email and instructing all Troop Commanders to abide by the law.
The credibility of the entire agency is at stake over this. It's all over every media outlet in Florida. Allowing the situation to stand is not an option. I hope some real leadership will be exercised and the damage this situation has caused the reputation of the agency is repaired.

Really? The memo says nothing of a "quota" but a goal. So many complaints of such low pay, yet don't want to work for the money. Do you really think a raise will come when you all are sitting on your asses in resteraunts, milking crashes and finding any other way to do nothing? You want more money and get pissed when you are called out for not doing what you are getting paid for. Hypocrites, snow flakes, lazy asses, whiners, temper tantrum throwing toddlers........Do your job, and if you don't like it, move on.
