I was quite surprised I got a mailer today stating that my app was placed inactive due to amount of applicants vs current vacancy and that more qualified candidates were selected signed by a "Capt". Located in TBA.

Thought I had a pretty good shot considering being a current reservist with very solid work background, college credits and being a 25+ applicant. Called the number on the mailer and it was your call cannot be complete as dialed. I mean I beat almost 3/4 of the people on the Physical test.

Hard to soak this in Capt, your skipping good people. Waiting a year is kind of a long time.

That's sad. I'm Applying as well and I too am a Army reservist in good shape and 90+ credit hours. I've heard so many stories like this which is unfortunate. What's sad is these recruits they choose, many quit the first day as I have WITNESSED at the FPSI seeing them around campus. And I mean it had to be at least 20 quit from the current class due to the stress. They should choose more people with military experience because there military style training isn't anything new and from the looks of it is luke warm compared to the actual military. Hopefully I get in but if not, I guess it's on to better things. Good luck tho if it was mean to be then it will be , God has a plan for us all

You were just granted a stay of execution. You can not survive on FHP salary without putting in at least 20 hrs of OT per week. Unless you like living in a double-wide in the middle of nowhere, or a studio apartment with mold and leaks.

Literally the lowest paid agency in the state (not counting little po-dunk departments in the panhandle).

Bottom line, do yourself a favor and apply somewhere with a living wage for the risk. Many local S.O.'s offer way better salary, benefits, signing bonuses, relocation bonuses, and fully sponsored academy.

If you're interested in City PD's, go down to Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami Dade. They pay more than just about anywhere.

Sadly, even lower end PD's, such as Riviera Beach, get paid more than FHP and have better benefits.

Agreed! This is the BEST thing that could have happened to you. FHP is a joke, and the pay is crap. Apply to local agencies. Keep your eye on the FHP recruitment Instagram page. You will see the kind of maggots they hire nowadays. Overweight women, Haitians and there will be a few elderly in the pics. Run my friend, don't look back. I went to a SO and it was literally the BEST decision I have ever made.

If you don't drive you are not affected by FHP, if you drive and only use the surface streets you are not seriously affected by FHP; as a matter of fact, even if you drive the interstates you are not really affected by FHP that much.
The average citizen does NOT see FHP as a law enforcement agency, but a traffic enforcement agency with lae enforcement authority.
The Florida Legislature puts up with FHP out of respect for the agency's past and the benefit of the escorts, protection details, etc.
It is what it is and it don't matter how many rockets you stick up its a$$ it will never fly.
