WOW, just wow. The more information that comes out the more damaging.

Accountability. Responsible policing. End of the good 'ole boy's club. Reducing the tax payers liability for the endless law suits that are bound to come. Protecting our good officers. It's so crystal clear. Why can't we do anything about it? Fire Vespia NOW.

"D’Alessandro served 34 years as the chief prosecutor in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit. He said he’d explain the difference between culpable negligence and ordinary negligence to a jury with an example like this one.
“I’d like you to walk my dog today and I don’t tell you the dog’s attacked four people in its lifetime, and the dog goes out and gets loose and does something, I’m really the one that set that in motion. My actions were culpable because I didn’t tell you or let you know. I put you in a dangerous situation,” said D’Alessandro."

or maybe a Chief that allows officers with a known 'propensity for violence' to remain on the force.... or a City hall that is aware and does nothing..

funny how two separate cities, two separate departments and yet we as citizens share a common problem, the police administration. The SAO could have not said it better. Yet despite what the people want this NEW administration is turning a blind eye to the problem. Pathetic and sad.

    Prosecution Rests

Will Chief Lewis take the stand and reconcile how he went on the record accepting full responsibilty, 100% accountable.. yet he is innocent of the charges and should not pay a penalty? Instead blaming the Admin and officer involved. No doubt they may each share some part.. but in the end, the responsibility falls to the Chief. He should have simply done the honorable thing, resign and plead out with no jail time.

Fifth attempt to get the charges denied. Judge says.. mmm no.. Let the jury decide.. As it should be.

HONORABLE, is this so hard to comprehend. He admitted being accountable, so why is he wasting the taxpayers money in this shame trial. Lewis and Vespia best buds, neither have any ethics or HONOR, they both are an embarrassment to this profession. If they had any Honor what so ever they both would have either demoted themselves or resigned. I guess what concerns me more is that our new commissioners are as complacent as our past commissioners when it comes to Vespia.

    Defense Rests..

The defense rested and the chief did not testify. He deflects blame the female LT who organized the event and of course, Coel as well. So much for accepting 100% responsibility.

However, Gene Sims, a former police academy instructor, took the stand Wednesday and said Lewis was responsible because of his position within the department.

“You can delegate authority, but you cannot delegate responsibility,” Sims said.

    Not Guilty

After 3 hours, jury finds Lewis Not Guilty. I am secretly relieved as I could never reconcile jail time for incompetence.

It is ironic and sad that everyone else has and will pay but Lewis was clear he was 100% responsible and accounbtable... until it came time to pay the fiddler.

    Civil Suit 2 million
    2 Admin resignations
1 cop headed to a Guilty outcome

The City should remove him but I do not expect they will.

Kudos to the City of Punta Gorda City Manager

So many similarities between Lewis and vespia.. even in the face of their failures, they cannot accpet responsibility.
