Cape Police Officer Suspended following DUI crash into home

Cape off-duty officer in crash, suspended

    STACEY HENSON , SHENSON@NEWS-PRESS.COM 6:11 p.m. EST December 5, 2016

An off-duty officer crashed her vehicle into a home early Saturday, badly injuring herself and damaging a garage and two cars in it.

Cape Coral Police Department said in a release Monday that Officer Emily Zyvoloski, 33, has life-threatening injuries.

Police said the vehicle she was driving failed to take a left turn at a bend, crashing into a garage at 422 Nicholas Parkway East, damaging two vehicles parked in it and leaving structural damage to the home.

Police said charges are pending, and the crash is alcohol-related. Zyvoloski has been employed by the department since 2007 and will be placed on paid administrative leave.

"We hold ourselves and our officers to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off-duty," Chief Dave Newlan said. "This crash is being investigated just like any other would be under similar circumstances."

He said after the criminal investigation is complete, the department's professional standards bureau will investigate.

I believe that this Officer, would be protected by Federal Laws, that cover substance abuse by first responders ... Dear Officer, hope your doing better And get someone to help you in researching the aforementioned, I believe that you can't be terminated for having a substance abuse problem, Oh I know that your union wouldn't probably tell you this, because most union heads are sucking up to the administration to better their career opportunities, and right now you are persona non grata ... even though you gave our community 9 years of service and of backing up your fellow police officers in their time of need. I wish you all the best and good luck to you in your future endeavors !

Once a Drunk, Always A Drunk

It's not like the department didn't know she had an alcohol problem. So does her ex-husband. Heck it was very public, that's what caused the divorce.

How many department get together were they always drunk. He had his "tea" to drink and she hit the bottle. How many Christmas parties was their drunken behavior witnessed.

The sad thing is, everyone thought it would happen to him first and not her.

    Sad. Very sad.

Thank God neither of them have killed anyone......yet!

How is she still collecting a pay check? Why doesn't she just plea and save us anymore embarrassment?! Her ex must be happy she went back to her previous name.

Or lying on a time sheet. Or double dipping on overtime while on duty. Or violating someones civil rights. Or excessive force complaints.......those are all small. But god forbid you dont write a report, thats a fireable offense.
