They have a right to disagree to the interview. They have a right to say leave the property. They have a right to give their side of the story too though. Can't say if this happened here but on many occasions a suspects family has reached out (primarily to the station they themselves watch) on their own.

I don't agree with "stalking" but depending on the story, the person, how accessible they are, they will go extraordinary lengths in some cases to get sound, video of an event or someones side of the story. Stalking though is something I would apply to paparazzi though, I would hate to have people stalking every detail of my life, outside the news even.

It’s easier to do the interview and get it over with,then be called on the phone or having someone knock at your door over and over and over.
