Chuck was actually from Tampa and spent most of his career there... don't try and blame this on Pensacola.

Tampa leadership has had its problems and continues to show problems.

He was born in raised and the Pensacola/Escambia Alabama area. He served time in Pensacola and Jacksonville before coming to Tampa where he only spent less than four years of his career. So most of his time was in the greater Pensacola area!!

He was a package hire from the AGs Cyber Unit when FDLE was forced to merge them into the agency........ not sure who to blame on this.

This is as bad as it gets... a FDLE Supervisor using his cybercrime position to get off on kiddie porn. Perhaps the program needs even more oversight.

FDLE Agent Accused Of Abusing Third Young Boy

A third victim has surfaced in the case of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent accused of child sex crimes.

Charles “Chuck” Calvin McMullen was arrested on an additional charge of lewd and lascivious behavior and held without bond in the Santa Rosa County Jail.

He was first arrested on two counts of sexual battery on a victim under 12 and two counts of lewd lascivious behavior victim less than 12 years old.

The mother of the third victim contacted the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office after reading about McMullen’s first arrest. She became concerned because her child spent “almost every other weekend” at McMullen’s home, and she questioned her son.

The son told his mother and investigators that McMullen touched him in and inappropriate sexual manner.
McMullen investigated similar cases during his five year employment with the FDLE. He previously worked as Chief of the Cybercrimes Unit for then-Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum and for the Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office.

    memorial road

You ever notice that 1/2 the Agents working ICAC are the weirdo type? I'll bet they quickly erased McMullen's facebook posts off their Facebook accounts.

    The problem

What we are seeing is the inherent problem of FDLE hiring the people that it is forced to hire. Low pay and the dumbed down application process has caused it to hire people that are not qualified to do the job. When I was hired with FDLE 30 + years ago we were able to pick from a pool of proven, experienced individuals. We truly were getting the best of the best. And the pay was on par with most anyone else. But for the past 15 or so years its become, take what you can get. I would estimate that over this time there may be 2-3 out of every agent class truly deserving of the job. Why would a veteran investigator/detective from Miami or Hillsborough County, already making good money come to FDLE for less money to start with little possibility for pay raises to later make up the difference. My last few years at FDLE were tough. I was embarrassed at what I saw and felt sad for what was once a great agency. From the top down the agency has lost its identity and is no longer regarded as the premier investigative agency in the state. Most large city or county departments far surpass FDLE in expertise and resources.

Unless you work for a small rural department, are retired from your agency or just can't cut it in your current position I would highly recommend staying away from FDLE, there is nothing there anymore. And as bad as it is now, I cringe to think of where it will be 10, 15, 20 years from now when there are no veterans from the glory days of the late 70's through the early 90's left to give some guidance to the new "Special Agents".

    Good luck to you all.
