Sergeant's test - level playing field?

Some of the people who are taking the test have to work prior to the morning of the test. Some do not. Obviously the ones who got a good night's sleep will arrive rested and more alert for the test. The others who work at night will not. Seems like this isn't really fair to the ones who worked prior to the test. In order to have a level playing filed the folks who work nights should have the shift off prior to the test.

Promotional exams are not mandatory. The agency is very liberal in letting on duty people take the exam. The date of the test is usually announced well in advance, take the day off if you need to. This isn't a issue.

If you could take the day before the testing off this would not be in issue. Unless you call in sick which looks bad.

I predict that Bob will get rid of this testing company and change the test and the promo requirements again. He has nobody to blame for the bad promotions but himself because he tried to fix something which was not broken.

Already many quality applicants are sick and tired of the stupid games at the annual sergeant's tests. They are giving up because it is not worth the aggravation and disruption to their personal lives and work. Fewer and fewer of the qualified people will be taking the test. The remaining ones who test will be either newbies looking for more money or power hungry dictators. Not good either way but it was Bob's decision so he has to live with it.

    Fairness

"Fairness" is fiercely defended by those in this agency that occupy powerful positions. Those who once received "fairness" are now in power using "fairness" to ensure the best form of "fairness" is in place. The powerful positions in this agency are beyond the complaints of the staff members. This agency is blessed to have people who are in power that are nearly angelic and incorruptible. They strive to always engage in "fairness". Sometimes the powerful question "fairness" when they think there is someone who needs more of it. There is only so much "fairness" to be dispensed. We as staff members cannot possibly understand or comprehend the "fairness" they use concerning promotions.

Bob is a crybaby about the test but he is the one who changed the selection system and changed it again every year so he has nobody to blame but himself.

The current test does not account for experience, common sense under stresss and work ethic. So you got what you got.

In DDC for example there are many corporals and wanna-be corporals who's main motivation to be promoted is to avoid working difficult and unpleasant areas, and to be assigned to easier jobs with more opportunities to goof off. For every decent corporal there is one who should be knocked down to deputy. Furthermore the pool of corporals from which sergeants are selected is very tainted. That is how bad it has become.

Fairness would be that everyone on every level take the same test as everyone else vying for a promotion at the same time to get to the next level. I'm talking about the higher-ups that Bob gets an itch and says you've been promoted to... It also helps when some of those members that get the special "itches" turn out to have family that backs money to Bob's rule. And for any troll out there I'm not looking for a promotion, have not been passed up for one nor am I a disgruntled employee. Just trying to state what's been said 1000s of times here, you have to have friends in high places...
