Only Knight knows exactly why he said it. In reality (which is separate from his imagination), there is absolutely no distinction between:
- a Sheriffs Agency
- and a Policing Agency
No distinction is made at the academy or by FDLE or by SPI.
Once again, a reporter provided a direct kooky quote from Knight himself. If we were to say that Knight made that kooky comment, then nobody would believe us. It’s one of his left field weird comments that won’t fit into any normal box (just like the Hitler comment that he made).
Anyway, did you notice that Knight has budgeted for ANOTHER media specialist to help spin public perception and to run Facebook? Exactly how many media specialists do we have now? A full squad? The county must be flush with money if we can budget for another media specialist to run facebook operations.

Many years ago before you were hired here, the “elected” Sarasota sheriff (Jim Hardcastle) was arrested for allegations of being dirty. As a result, a countywide referendum was held to abolish the office of “elected” Sarasota sheriff (aka the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office) and to replace it with an “appointed” director (aka the Sarasota County Department of Public Safety).
However, after the old sheriff’s arrest, when the newly elected sheriff (Geoff Monge) realized that county commissioners could terminate his employment for misuse of authority or incompetence for other allegations, Monge orchestrated another referendum – and then the citizens voted to reinstate the “elected” office of sheriff.
If Knight is suggesting that the “elected” Sarasota Sheriff’s Office should be replaced with an “appointed” director of public safety, then Knight’s ass will be fired by county commissioners in a New York minute.

Oh yes, it was noticed! But the public didn’t notice it. But on the other hand, Knight is now so bold that he is asking commissioners for more money to hire another media specialist. Exactly how many media specialists are budgeted for in the 2017 budget? You can’t make this stuff up! LOL

Our "media specialists" can get you free access.
On a different note, click here to see a pic of Knight “going under” to try and fix 2nd floor leaks/floods.

The facts are documented in SSO history from the 1980s:
- Sarasota Sheriff Jim Hardcastle was indicted, arrested and booked into our own jail on Nov. 16, 1983 for allegations of being dirty. Two days later on Nov. 18, the governor suspended him. The first article is provided as a courtesy, but you'll have to do your own legwork for the rest:

. - As a result of corruption allegations inside the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office, a countywide referendum was held to abolish the “elected” sheriff – and replace it with an "appointed" director of the Sarasota County Department of Public Safety. The referendum passed and the “elected” sheriff was abolished and was replaced with an "appointed" director. The transition began on Nov. 8, 1984.
. - A second referendum was held later and the “elected” sheriff was reinstated when…
If we were to switch back to an "appointed" director of a countywide department of public safety, then it would authorize the county commissioners to terminate the employment of Knight for allegations of being dirty or for being incompetent or for other reasons because the "appointed" director would be "at-will employment" – and he’d be fired in a New York minute. And you know it’s true!
Speaking of history, do you remember when VPD arrested Tom Knight for disorderly conducted after he got sloppy drunk and then got into a fight at a bar? Both Jim Hardcastle and Tom Knight have been arrested in Sarasota County. It's a small world.
