You do have the ability to leave the PBA like BSO did. Now the BSO Lieutenants are collecting PERC cards to leave the PBA too. Why not leave the PBA and switch to a union that will allow you to run tour own local, elect your own leadership, endorse or not endorse your own local candidates and keep your own money. There is no reason why Hollywood Officers should be contributing to a Hollywood lodge and the Broward Lodge. Do you even know where your money is going? It is going to help pay the 1.5 million mortgage of the PBA hall on state rd 84 because the BSO Deputies left the PBA. Marano is not in it to represent you, he is in it to reap all the personal gains that he can. The Deputies just signed a 2/2/minimum 2 contract that increased comp time, eliminated up to a $1,200 fuel fee they paid, locked in any future health care increases at a 90-10 ratio where the 5800 employees split the 10%, increased retirement benefits, reduced retiree health costs by as much as 661 a month, gained 3 bonus days a year to cash in and after 20 years with all steps and longevity, they are at 90k a year now. Oh yeah, they still get FREE health care for another 13 months before they have to pay $50 a month for single, $100 a month for you plus 1 dependent and $150 a month for you plus 2 or more defendants. All that was accomplished in 1 year with a new union that is only for Deputies. If you want to join the International Union of Police Associations, you must form your own local with its own executive board that only represents Hollywood. www.iupa.org
