    Questions about your department

Good afternoon ladies and gents. First I will start by asking that you please keep all the negative hateful stuff as limited as possible. I already know about issues there and the Lt. nobody cares for. That being said, I am a retired sergeant from a department in Miami Dade county but I am still pretty yo.ung. I took a 2 year break from law enforcement and would like to work at a department that really is jumping call to call like my last department. I know you all will say to never go there and all of that, I get it. However if you all would please provide me with some info I would appreciate it.

    1. Starting pay? No raises in your career, correct?
2.Take home vehicle? I live in Broward
    3. I think you have 3 different "districts?" You have the area of Krome and 8 street, 75 by exit 49, and one other?
4.I enjoy doing traffic and would love to do traffic on 75. I think you all rotate the areas daily, correct?
    5. I know at one time they did not really want you to do traffic or anything for that matter, just stay low and be visible. Are they ok with you doing traffic?
    6. If a person you write a ticket to takes the ticket to court, where do you all go to court for that? I never remember seeing any Miccosukee at the Metro Dade court house and I was there often
    7. I am not big on off duty as I enjoy my days off but do you all ever have any?
8.Is the health insure/dental any good?

Thanks again for your time and if I forgot anything, I will ask later. Be safe guys and try to stay away from the B.S.

No such thing as call to call here. Usually pretty quiet.

    1. Starting pay around 43-44k. Cost of living and random raises sometimes
    2. Take homes after a year
    3. Krome and 8st (casino area), residential area 20miles west of that, and i75
    4. Districts are rotated according to the sgts
    5. You can do all the traffic you want
    6. Tickets in broward go to one of the broward courts, in dade they go to the south Dade justice center. Regular arrest cases go to the dade courthouse on 12st.
    7. There are regular construction off duties on Krome and the concerts, boxing at the resort. More construction details coming up next month at $45/hr.
    8. The insurance isn't bad. It's like $50 a check + $4 for dental and $4 for vision.

    Yes

Yes all of the above is correct... It's a great place to start at as a rookie and keep your certificate active.

But the other side of it is- is that it's purgatory for people waiting to leave. No other department in the state of Florida has a turn over rate as high as this one. Miccosukee was rated as the most under-trained and under experienced police department in south Florida (sweetwater PD is a close second)

The average officer works there for about 3 years before leaving or getting fired. (Unless they have baggage and miccosukee is their last resort)

I'm not being negative but if you want to know what the department is like.. That's it.

So I assume before you get your take home, you have to drive to 3 different stations depending on which area you work for your shift is that correct? Is your department big officers going to court for tickets? My last apartment made it mandatory that you must go to court for tickets but I know some departments really don't care if you go or not as long as it's not Criminal. Me personally I would love to set up on 75 into traffic every day of the week since I'm a big traffic person but I know it's up to the sergeant.

I think I heard you guys work 12-hour shifts correct? Also do you rotate the morning afternoon and night shift or are you assigned a permanent shift? Potato chips how often do you stay on each shift ?Thanks again for all the info and stay safe.

While on probation, if you live in broward you can park your unit at the toll plaza on i75. From there you would drive to whatever district your assigned to. If you live in dade you'd park at the resort. Everyone pretty much rotates districts every day.
Traffic court is not mandatory but you get 4 hrs OT for every appearance. Criminal are mandatory. Had a shift bid like 6 months ago. If you have a good reason, they'll move you to another shift. Otherwise your stuck there for a while.

    Talking

Is it true that they call you "Braves" instead of officers and you have to wear a buzzer's feather in your hair?
