Former Miami-Dade mayor and top cop Carlos Alvarez charged with battery

Carlos Alvarez, the former Miami-Dade County police director and mayor, has been arrested and charged with battery, according to reports.

Alvarez, 63, was arrested in the battery of his longtime girlfriend, according to a police report.

Alvarez turned himself in to Coral Gables police on Wednesday and was taken to Miami-Dade jail.
