which one would u like, the K( who beat his wife on the street and in full view of the surveillance system, the detective who handcuffed his wife and threw her in the pool, oops an accident, how about the sex parties and suicide, need I go on. touched and trumped. More money at scco, more professionalism, no vespia, no pelfrey, no morales and his crew. Save the taxpayers thousands of dollars and provide better service all around.

The SCSO would be cheaper for the tax payers better services for the taxpayers etc etc. Long term city retirements almost always have problems during economic down times and this is something that the city should be paying attention to. If we take into account just the pay out on the lawsuits alone we would be ahead of the game by bringing in the Sheriff. Many small towns in Florida are doing this now to save money and cover their asses with liability. The Sheriff would do a fine job in North Port. I think that it is worth exploring.

What the sheriff can provide, a real certified SWAT team, not that squad of guys with rifles, tactical team, street crimes unit, more visible crime deterrent than NPPD. He will actually have the authority to patrol the entire North Port both the incorporated and unincorporated sections. He doesn't have to end his pursuits when he crosses into another's jurisdiction. More deputies on the streets. We can all sit back and well make asinine comments, but the reality is this, NPPD has no manpower to do what needs to be done. We can only provide service to the incorporated portion of the city and only if we have enough manpower. We provide nearly zero service to west villages and north of river rd simply because the recall time of any car out there is to lengthy, oops the secret is out, no patrols north of river rd. Make whatever comments you want, Fiscally speaking the taxpayers would save millions if the sheriff took over. NPPD is nothing more than a security service at best, we do not have the manpower to be an effective police force and deterrent. The sheriff can provide much much more. Bottom line is how Many of us would he take as deputies????? the complete admin would certainly be unemployed.....
Vespia has been quoted as saying the county does provide better service at a cheaper price( ACO position)

Manpower
So you want manpower? Then get rid of Vespia and change the reputation he has created within the law enforcement community. North Port used to be a department that everyone wanted to work for. Since he has taken over we have become one of the lowest paid agencies around. Morale has never been lower. He hires people from outside the department to handle his behind the scenes intimidation and calls them his administration. There has never been a time that all the open positions have been filled and currently it stands at 10. His protector has fled to the county and hopefully the new city manager will do what his predecessor refused to do and realize just how messed up the PD is because of his ineptness and dump his a$$ before he can do any more harm. Why give him till March to continue the spiral he has created?

If you think that the single most important issue in this dept is vespia, then your wrong. I will agree he needs to go now and be denied his farewell tour. He has lied, deceived and torn the heart right out of this department. He is now playing the out of sight, out of mind, so he can keep my job ploy. We also have Pelfrey, the reject from SCSO, Morales, the poster boy for doing nothing and now he wants to be the chief. We have the chiefs Business manager who we all know not to piss off, she has more balls than the chief. We have our wonderful clueless commanders who virtually work when they want. We have a host of golden good old boys who are the favorites. No my friend the snitching and ratting out persist today, Ignorance breeds ignorance and we certainly have enough at the top. let us not be fooled, simply hiring a new chief will not solve our problems, citizens input and commission oversight needs to happen. Vespia is politicking for his boy, the commission has given him his year and we will see, will morales have the required education by then, will vespia ask for an extension. If you really want to clean out the inept and corrupt then the following need to go now, Schulte, Vespia and Pelfrey. Or you can decide to simply go green and bring in the sheriff, thus eliminating all the admin positions and the good officers will be assimilated and the bad off to the unemployment rolls

You are not too brite.
Sorry, but you are not.
The Sheriff would not even have 3 deputies in NP. He staffs his positions based upon polling precinct maps, specifically high voter turnout out precincts.
Don't believe that? Drive around unincorporated Sarasota County and see for your damn self!
If your theory was correct, Laurel, Warm Mineral Springs and those parts of unincorporated Sarasota that border SPD would not be in the positions they are in, NOW WOULD THEY?
Enough of your complete foolishness and your fairytales about Tom Knight and what he would do, because he won't! And neither will anyone who comes after him!
We are on our own and we need grassroots people like Stephanie and other realists to continue us on our path toward improvement.
Enough of this SCSO nonsense. I bet if you asked the good people in Laurel, WMS or Sarasota if they had to choose between the level of service North Port gets, and the level of service they get, it is quite obvious we would be welcomed!
