Once again per FSS a county can not annex a Municipality it is illegal and there is no law on the books as to how it can be done except for Miami. A municipality can only annex in the county in which it is located except in special situations where the law allows the city to annex in to another county based on what the homeowners want. Once again a county can not annex a municipality. Show me one real example.

Question
So if West Villages wanted to become a separate and distinct City in Sarasota County... Wouldn't the City of North Port have to approve such a move through some process or negoitiation?

it is rumored that they have the future votes in place with well selected candidates and will be all set in the coming years, I am sure they will have the support of the county and state legislators. Its a done deal, but will NP be reimbursed for there expenditures including the stadium, no they will not. Money talks BS walks, they have the money.

No, if there residents want it and vote for it, then it would be up to the commissioners to approve or disapprove, believe me, they will approve when the time comes, WV will have there people in place then its up to the legislators and governor to sign off, sounds complicated but they have the lawyers to get it done.

Not sure how to explain this to you in simple terms.
West villages is in the City of North Port. That is the City
Sarasota is unincorporated.
An incorporated area can't become "unincorporated at will" The homeowners live in the city. The area is in the city. The county can not take the land away from the city. The city can vote to have the county take over services, but there still has to be a technical city. One or a group can not abolish an incorporated area IT IS ILLEGAL PER THE FLORIDA LAW.
IT IS ILLEGAL. West Villages can not annex themselves into the county nor can the county annex West Villages in to the county. The deal has been made and the property has been annexed signed sealed and delivered. The city has full rights over the property. The homeowners can vote till they are blue in the face nothing can happen.
Lakewood is in the County and has always been in the County. Lakewood could form their own city if they wanted to.
North Port could hire the county to come in and provide services but they would still need to have a government or governing body.
For example did you know that Disney is a real city with about 80 residents and a mayor? In the 60s Disney was incorporated so they could control their own taxes building codes etc.
Once again a county can not take a city and a city neighborhood can not break away from a city. Thank you-

So we have a 103 person sworn department in which 63%, having left in the KV era and with 19 plus of those leaving this year alone. The CM might as well be called Jonathan Jr as he has obviously turned a blind eye to the goings on at the police department as did his predecessor. Sixty five people and counting. Great leadership there KV. Who is next on your hit list now?
