He did an excellent job teaching and grooming his people for advancement, didn't he? Let's put that question to all the officers that were passed over under HIS leadership for outsiders to be hired. TL forgot the one category to add, ball sucker EXCEPTIONAL.

$14,000,000 annual Police budget.. or roughly $270,000 this week was spent in the pursuit of law enforcement in the City of North Port. Here are the Highlights admin provided this week. Not only are there no police stats of what our officers faced this week (like FD highlights show) there is not one kudo or tip of the hat to the rank n file at all... it is all Admin Admin Admin.

Chief, please consider providing meaningful stats like the Fire Chief is sharing each week. How many calls. What type of calls.. what about a heads up for the pretenda cop that may be knocking on doors.

    Mental Health Crisis Situational Training.....

As communicated to the Mental Health Task Force last fall and reiterated later during my meeting with vespia and Commanders meeting, they are working with Dr Thompson of USF to create some Hands on Situational Training. This will be role playing likely situations utilizing members of our area Mental Heath facilities staff. This training was a strong step towards helping us all do a better job in dealing with the mentally ill. CIT training is so limitied (max 6 officers per year), this training was really a proactive step to provide an interim training while we work on the goal of getting all officers through CIT.

It is nearly June, and the training details are still being worked out per Captain Uebelacker. A record request of email to and from Dr Thompson showed no discussion of any situational training. I sure wish there was a bit more urgency.

Chief Vespia and Mr Lewis.. You cannot claime and take credit for being a "leading edge 21st century ..." without actually following through and getting it done. There is a piss poor history with a subset of officers and their treatment of the mentally ill. (See Moriarty for the lawsuit list) Clearly there are some who need this training. It is a safety issue for the officer and the citizen in crisis. Too many in crisis are getting hurt needlessly.

It is called Integrity, you said you would do it.. now do it.

There you go Stephanie. Put the answer on LEO's and CIT. This comes down to $ and how the public sector keeps getting squeezed. Peddle on up to City Hall and tell them you want more $

PD has a 14 plus million dollar budget, he has the seizure funds and other monies available. Think he spends all his monies on what they are earmarked for. The money is there, no one wants to sit thru CIT and some shrink from tampa, its like anything else, learn it and you have a base to work from, things go south and something happens, you tried sure beats the bam bam baker act plan that is now in use. Stephanie has her agenda and her right to speak her peace, she also has a sense of just what is imploding within this department. She confronted the bosses face to face and demanded change, any of us have the balls to do that?. She is not going to let this go, it's her mission.

Call me stupid, but what is the department's definition of Police Staff and Administration Staff.
