    Time for a change

We now have the ability to change our city. Three commissioners seats are on the ballot for this year. We all have read some of the unlawful, unethical and unprofessional behavior allegedly either conducted by or sanctioned by or overlooked by our city leaders and employees. North Port is on the verge of a housing explosion which some say could lead to 100K persons living with the city incorporated boundaries. We have certainly have had our share of problems. How do we take back control,
We need to pick our new commissioners wisely, we need new blood not affiliated with Terry Lewis or Jonathan the city manager or the two commissioners seeking reelection.
The two commissioners seeking reelection must go, they have reneged on their promises and have contributed to the decline of this city. Look at all the bad press, coverage of their disputes, self serving legislation.
The establishment of a independent civilian ethics committee, comprised of city residents who volunteer there time to review and suggest to the commission there findings in any ethic complaints. They will be responsible ONLY to the commissioners and will have the authority to investigate any matter of an ethics nature or ethical complaint against any city employee or department. They can make recommendations, suggest policy change,
The establishment of a civilian review board whose responsibility will be to review and investigate any complaints or disciplinary actions taken against any employee of the city. This will insure no department manager will seek revenge on any employee or maliciously or arbitrarily discipline any city employee without due process. As it is now, they can just fire you and you have to go thru the process. This committee will also insure that all citizen complaints against any city employee will be handled in a professional manner, department managers will be held accountable if not investigated fairly and that the citizen will have a voice. The fair haired will be held accountable. This review board will handle all complaints that are other than ethical in nature. They will be responsible only to the commission.
These are just food for thought.

Wishful thinking. That's all your rant was.

This City suffers from Apathy. Plain and simple. There will be no changes and you know it. Whether it's admin accusing retirees of posting here, or our own people going at each other, we are divided. You know it, admin knows it, which means City Hall knows it.

The rant about the housing boom; KV doesn't care. He'll reach into his IACP pocket and pull out some magical formula that says we have TOO many people x8 as it is. If the past couple of years has not been enough to ignite the Citizens to demand a change, then I'm sad to say nothing is. Your efforts are better served going back to sleep, or updating your resume'.

Your ignorance is not such a gift it' s more a liability, no one was ranting here, merely making suggestions. It's easy to be you, just sit back and take the bullshit and criticize ideas for change. Like the way your treated, like the way things are, that's great, I am happy for you, I don't like what is happening and apparently several others feel the same way.

    Just ignore that ass.
That is their constant MO here.
They demean every idea and offer absolutely nothing constructive. They only thing they offer up is a defeatism attitude.

    Change is coming..

The old adage that there are only two things you cannot avoid.. should be three things you cannot avoid: Death Taxes and Change. No matter what, it is already changing.. the question is, do you trust the current Chief to mold that change? I don't.

Of course not. But when you look at the $ that makes up those salaries, why would any of them want to risk such large pensions? Because we disgruntled cops and some kid's mother keep harping for it? Follow the money.

I waited for about six days to see if there were any comments on this post and the salaries it reveals. Chief vespia 132,227.00 dollars his salary for 2015 plus a 2015 chevy impala for his unrestricted use plus a whole lot of other bennies. Not bad for a poor boy from Rhode Island with only a GED. He did not perform a single police duty either. Never answered any calls, never on patrol, unless its going to lunch, works eight hour shift weekends and holidays off. Sgt Fitzpatrick$132,471.00 salary, what about 50K in overttime. Recently demoted to Sgt but was just a desk jockey in the station and performed some training duties
Three sergeants all over 100K. Fire and EMS salaries many over 100K. What the hell is going on here. Talk about fiscal irresponsibility. A first yr officer makes 41K and tops out at what 65K. These are the people who are actually out on the street providing service answering calls and under scrutiny daily Look at the salaries of the city manager and his assistant. Compare the chiefs salary to the sheriffs of our county and charlotte and manatee. Compare with larger cities, We are being fleeced here. Just for comparision without reading the contract top patrolman about 65K, top sergeant about 69K, former Lieutenants, 76K look at all the OT accumulated and paid out..

I attended a salary incentive course not too far back and the instructor used the term 'management entrenchment'. The gist of it I guess was the strategies management uses to resist outside influence and protect their positions. That's what's happening here. These salaries influence how the decisions are made around here are obviously taking precedent over us working cops.

KV can lie about it all he wants but it's his bank statement that he cares about the most.

Not doing the right thing around here by Man in' up to take responsibility for everything that has happened on his watch. Not by coming clean about that BS on the SWFL chiefs site and our allegedly 'independent' consultant report to the commission that he manipulated to overhaul our rank structure. How much more? = too much.

The thing that we have to accept is that nothing will change. No one will be coming to help us. The citizens of this town are not engaged and do not care what has happened and what will continue to happen.
