Lying at any level should be a firing offense

Starting with your application and all the way through your career, lying in ANY function of your job should be a firing offense. There seems to be this new wave thinking that deputies lie and its to be expected when they are facing discipline or potential discipline. Don't know how and when this started but it needs to end. Career Criminals and the people we arrest are expected to lie, deputies are expected to be truthful at all times in any official capacity. Lying is a character flaw that takes advantage of the vast majority of us that do not. I for one am proud of the veracity of my spoken and written words, it represents my name and all that it stands for. Anybody that is comfortable lying even on minor things will be comfortable lying on the big things. Liars need to be terminated when it can be proven, period!

If that is the case, the entire third floor needs to fired. These guys are the biggest violators of the general orders since they have been hired. They been protected their entire career by their old bosses and now they are our bosses. These guys were the laziest deputies and yet they will tell you that you are subpar and a lazy deputy. These guys run IA, and grill other deputies for wrong doings which are less offensive than what they did as deputies. These guys commit adultry with their married female subordinates, lie, cheat, and backstab anyone in order to get ahead. We need a civil board to conduct our IA, because these guys can no longer be trusted. It's a good oboy system. Funny, how all the sons and daughters of former deputies with rank all quickly get promoted or moved to special units while the rest of rest are stuck in patrol, jail or courthouse. Nepotism runs wild in this agency.

    100% true.

This agency is run like the organized crime family from the movie "The Godfather". IA contains the biggest liars in the agency yet they are protected by the top brass because they do the dirty work for them. GOs and policy are violated all the time with impunity. They can lie and destroy people's careers. Scandals are covered up or the violators are given slaps on the wrists if they are politically connected or related to the brass somehow. Or are paramours to someone higher up then themselves. The corruption has caused bad hiring and at least half the promotions are heavily influenced by politics, nepotism or sexism. The Gualtieri administration has made things even worse and disgraced the LEO profession with its widespread corruption.

At some point, Tompkins-Holmes fell to the floorboard of the SUV and complained that he needed help, said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.

As Virden picked him up off the SUV’s floorboard and took him to the side of the vehicle Tompkins-Holmes reached around and took the gun from Virden’s holster, Gualtieri said. A struggle ensued.

Virden secured the gun and, stepping back, fired two shots.

Tompkins-Holmes was shot in the wrist, thigh, and abdomen, Gualtieri said.

“When someone reaches for a gun, it could be a volatile situation and we’re very fortunate and lucky that Deputy Virden wasn’t injured,” Gualtieri said. “When you grab a cop’s gun, you’re gonna get what you get out of it.”

Gualtieri said a person in handcuffs reaching for gun “can easily happen,” adding that a person’s flexibility could play a part in them being able to maneuver.

When Gualtieri lied to the media and the taxpayers of Pinellas County about this shooting incident, shouldn't he be removed from office for violating agency policy on lying? If not, is he really worthy of re-election after his attempted cover-up fell apart? Is he trustworthy? About as trustworthy as Hillary and Bill Clinton.

All of us regardless where we work have a responsibility to maintain the public's trust and serve the taxpayers of our county with honesty and ethical behavior, to the the best of our ability. Anything less is a disgrace to our professions and discredit to our agency. We get paid good money, get decent benefits and good pensions so let's do the job right regardless of agency politics which can have a negative effect on morale and careers. If someone thinks they can lie to get ahead by playing politics, don't be tempted to do the same. It is disgusting to watch but let the hogs wallow in the mud. Stay away from these frauds and be truthful at work and in your private life.
