    Concealed weapons

Quick question. In the academy do you meet all the state requirement to obtain your concealed license or do you still need to go off on your own?

Idk if it's even necessary once you have a badge, if it's legal to just use that or do you still need the license.

This must be the same guy that says the newer cops are graduating the academy with superior intelligence and insight; the old timers never had any brains or ability.

The degree of absurdity engendered by this question defies logic. If you are in fact in MDPD’s “Academy” and happen to graduate, pass the Florida’s certification exam, under Florida State Statute, Chapter 943, you would be a State of Florida certified police officer, in MDPD’s case a "deputy sheriff." What compels a person to ask this question; on this forum, evokes this retort: Child, you are stuck on stupid!

Obviously, once you are a certified law enforcement officer, you are able to carry a concealed firearm. The LESOA also applies to current law enforcement officers, so you will be allowed to carry in the other US states.

There is a benefit to also obtaining a concealed firearms permit. There was, and possibly still is, a time when law enforcement officers had to wait the 3 days before taking possession of a newly purchased firearm, but CCF permit holders did not.

The other benefit is that your department requires you to carry a certain weapon/caliber. As a CCF holder, I believe that you can carry whatever you want - outside of Miami-Dade County.

The 3 day wait still only applies to Florida Certified Correctional Officers as far as LEOs purchasing weapons, but just as with Police Officers, the Corrections Certification is also sufficient to carry off duty but only in the state of Florida.

From what I know, there is no wait for Police Officers.
