PBA and Peraza
A Deputy has been charged today with manslaughter and I place full blame on how the PBA handled this case in the beginning. Julio Rodriguez was sent to the scene of the shooting as legal counsel. We all know that we NEVER give a statement to homicide at the scene. Most people are traumatized and it is common practice to wait at least 72 hours before a good lawyer would allow a Deputy to provide a GARITY statement.
On the advise of counsel, Deputy Peraza was allowed to provide a statement to homicide (not proffer or garity) at the scene. WHY would the PBA ever do this? Why would Julio ever be sent to a shooting? This man has never once handled a police shooting but Marano was the one who authorized Julio to respond.
I know you may blame the grand jury but hold on. Did you know that the same grand jury who indicted Peraza was the same grand jury who cleared 3 other Deputies in a fatality on a robbery call. Maybe they were not out to hang a cop. Maybe they just acted on the lack of representation the PBA provided.
Side note, the PBA endorsed Michael Satz

Hope For Deputy Peter Peraza
On December 14, 2015 Members in Need, The HOPE Fund
Law Enforcement friends, family and supporters … the Broward County PBA has set up a way of helping Deputy Peter Peraza and his family through this very difficult time. Deputy Peraza is a family man and a decent person who was thrust into this horrible situation by just doing his job and responding to a 911 call.
If you can help, please mail a check, made out to the BROWARD COUNTY PBA HOPE FUND and put Peraza in the memo section, to 2650 West State Road 84, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312. You can also give them directly to Meghan Anderson, Chris Anderson, Chris Palamara, Don Huneke, Robert Lahiff or Christopher Bradley.
If you are unable to donate at this time, please send your prayers and positive thoughts.
Thank you and God bless.
